Shot a bunch of Double Tap 125 gr. .357 mag bonded defense and I tell you, shooting my G21SF .45 Auto after that was like shooting a .22! Those loads in the snubby have a serious kick! I have shot a lot of calibers, but this is definitely something else... Now I understand all those comments about full house loads out of a snubbie.

Try some Federal hydra-shok low recoil rounds. They seem pleasant to shoot in my SP101.

hehheh -- It *is* entertaining, huh. :)

My neighbor wanted to try my SP101 so I loaded the cylinder full of DT 125gr. It never came down in front of him from the first recoil. He handed it straight back to me in one smooth move.

Now imagine shooting those loads through a scandium S&W 340 that weight half as much as your SP-101.

    Ouch!

You can certainly do .357mag in the SP-101, but you'll likely need to avoid the hotter stuff in order to enjoy it. The beauty of the SP-101 is that it's more than strong enough, and the added weight helps tame the load.

Look on the bright side: today, there were probably a hundred folks that took their scandium, 12oz S&W .357 revolvers out for a little range work. Just imagine the kick on those li'l puppies.

I would not want to shoot those Double Tap 125 grainers from an Airweight...
The DT 125 gr. .357 mag is listed on their website as going 1,425 fps out of a 1 7/8 barrel and 1,600 fps out of a 4' barrel with this lodad. I guess that out of my 2 1/4 it may be approaching 1,500 fps... 710 ft. lbs !(osCommerce).
I think this measures up as one of the strong loads for this caliber... Anyway, just a lot of fun to shoot 50 rounds at a time (more is too harsh on your hands). I'm glad I got that SP101!!!

I shot 3 rounds of Speer Gold Dot through my scandium .357 Magnum and was sure I had broken some little bone in my right hand. I have a Freedom Arms Model 83 in 454 Casull that is much BETTER to shoot than that little S&W!!!

Ok, but what "Speer Gold Dot" did you use? i.e. load/grain, etc.

A .357 in Scandium kicks something nasty. Stings the hand and makes it almost not fun. The 101 is still in the fun category at the range

When I carry my 101 I load with GoldDot 135gr .38spl +P. They're designed for maximum performance with short barrels.
