How much wear is evident on the finish. Does the cylinder feel tight, can you move it by hand. Bring a bore light and check down the barrel for wear and dirt.

Awesome post, thanks for the information. Sorry for not finding the first time. From everything I have read the SP 101 is supposed to be rock solid. The seller says he is the second owner, he knows the original owner, and that they both only put a box of shells through it and it has sat in the safe since then. He said it is dead stock with no gunsmithing at all. I think it is a great price and I hope it goes well. I just really wanted to know if there are any flaws in the pistol that maybe on wheel gun experts have found. Thanks guys...I love this site and look forward to learning more from you guys.

I have one and it is built like a tank. Runs flawlessly, solid as can be, very accurate, and shoots comfortably.

If it's not my P7, then my SP101 is on my hip when I can legally carry.
I carry mine loaded with GoldDot 135gr +P .38spl. They're designed for maximum performance from short barrels.

Ruger builds solid revolvers. As long as it hasn't been abused it should be fine. I have an SP101 snubbie in .357 and it's an awesome gun. It is one of my CC guns, and I love shooting it.

Find one just like this and you are set. I found this jewel a few months ago and gave $350 for it. Locks up tight with no cylinder slop and is generally in like new condiiton. Built like a bank vault and just a solid, very strong and well made revolver. Buy one if you can find one.

I own a SP101 in .357 mag 2.25" SS. I like it so much that I just last night found a SP101 in .327 Fed Mag 3" (3 1/16" to be exact) SS and bought it. I fell in love with Ruger revolvers in 1987 when I bought the GP100 .357 4" SS that now resides in a comfortable place in my safe.

I have a SP 101 .357 3" and I love it. I haven't quite gotten used to packing it around but I am becoming more comfortable with it. My advice is to get a set of wolf springs for it. They really smooths up the action.

I saw one used SP101... should have bought it that day... it was gone the next day... it looked good and could have looked better with a little more care cleaning it... like I said I should have bought it that day since I had the money in my pocket.

Ruger is one of few that makes a revolver that will lock up tight. A lot of new S&W's feel like used Rugers. Personally if the timing is on, I think a little cylinder play is no big deal.

I bought mine in 1990, and it is still a tank. Heavy for a carry snub, but a wonderful weapon.

I met the seller today and looked at the gun, it had a few minor everyday scratches but it locked up tight and the barrel and cylinders looked good, it needed a good cleaning though. I bought it took it home and cleaned it up, looks great now. Nothing special standard DAO with a 2.25" barrel, love it though. I plan on sending it, eventually, to Gemini Custom for some customization, night sights and grips are the next step.
