I agree with both. When I wear my XD45 on my hip, it's got 13+1, with n extra mag available, and my Glock 26 in my right pocket has 12+1, once again with an extra.

Im a fan of both for sure. But usually my pt145 with 10+1 .45 acp and an extra mag with my p3at at 6+1 will do fine. Im content with 28 rounds to get me to somewhere save where i have more rounds if needed.

I think it's kind of a toss up.

One of my first wanted features in a carry gun is capacity. However in auto pistols the magazine is the heart of the gun. If it gives up the ghost, it can turn in to a single shot pretty quick.

I never carry an extra magazine unless I'm going out shooting. So, I usually carry my Glock 19 (15+1) or my SA XDm (19+1).

I'd go with the smaller (sub-c) gun and extra mag. It's easier for me to conceal a small gun and mag that one larger gun.

    Good post.

    My every day carry is a 5" Para-Ornance P-14 (14 shot 1911 .45) always with 1 and often 2 spare mags; so I vote......

My Taurus 24/7 Pro Compact 9mm comes with a 13+1 and a 17+1. It kind of depends on what I'm wearing, but during winter, 18 rounds should do the trick I think.

Both! I have always carried at least one reload. All a double-stack does is make me feel more comfortable with just one spare mag. In my 1911 days, I routinely carried two spare mags. Now, with P229s, I still often have two spare mags, but it seems less vital.

My personal choice is both! Currently I carry a G26 with a plus 2 extension and a G19 mag for a spare. This gives me 28 rounds at my disposal. Sometimes I will carry a bug with a reload.

Spare mags are necessary if you carry an autoloader. Malfunctions happen!

Since I can't tell the future I want to give myself every advantage I can.

In CA, we have the restricted 10 round mags.

As a CCW holder, it bothers me more than ever.

Being in MA and having to deal with a capacity limitation I do both.

1911 format either in caliber .45 ACP or 9MM both running quality high velocity defensive ammo.

Rather than the standard 7 rd. 45 ACP magazine I run an 8rd. in the gun with one or often two 10 rd. mags in reserve.
With the 9MM standard is nine rounds and I run that with one though most often two spare mags.

If I were back in a free state such as say VA I'd still run a 1911, as I did, because that is what I prefer.
But even if I had a high-cap gun I would still carry at least one spare mag regardless.

It's far better to have and not need than to need and not have.
As well magazines do fail and even break.

M&P 40c with 10+1. I've been thinking about carrying a spare mag, but haven't tried it yet.

For me it depends on what I am wearing. What can I conceal? In the summer it might just be my P225 plus two mags. In the winter it may be my P226 plus two mags. For me OC is not an option so I am sometimes limited by my dress code for the day. Today it is the P228 plus one of the P226 mags.

Do I expect to need thirty rounds? Of course not. I don't expect to need any rounds. I don't expect to need my weapon at all. But, if I do need it, I will need it badly. If I need it badly, I don't expect to find myself afterwords complaining that I had too many magazines. If I do find that other magazine on my hip to be a problem, I can get rid of it. If I don't have one, I can't make one magically appear.

I figure I am going to be carrying at least one reload no matter what the capacity of my carry gun is so I vote for extra ammo.

I carry a spare mag . Not because of more rounds. Sure thats a good reason but I carry the spare mag in case of a malfunction or other problem which may occur.
