If you didn't have a lot of money but, liked the 1911
style..would you consider buying the (Rock Island Armory
1911)?
It's made in the Phillipines right? I know it doesn't look at all
like the upper class 1911's.

You could have it bead blasted and have it dipped in a rich phosphate to give it a shiny dark black finish.
They're supposed to be pretty good... for the money. Obviously it doesn't have the finish of a Kimber or Colt or Springfield, but from what people are saying it'll get you into a solid 1911 for less cash.
Protection is a responsibility not just a right.
Good gun, great price. Go for it.

why get that when for $599, you can have this:

Thats the STI spartan. The frames and slides are made by Armscor in the phillipines, the internals and barrel fitting are done by STI.....

RIA are some decent guns for the price. You might look for a used mil spec springfield too.
If I didn't have a lot of money (which I don't) and liked the 1911 (which I do), I would try a RIA 1911 (which I did). No regrets.![]()
You need to look on Gunbroker...these RIAs were going for mid 400 range, they have a lot of bells and whistles for the price.

I'd be happy to own one of these but would check out Springfield Armory's Loaded 1911 before I pulled the trigger (pun intended)

Before I got laid off, I was shopping for one of their nickeled .38 Supers. They have a pretty good reputation for price vs. quality.
I ordered my RIA 1911 from SOG and had it shipped to a local FFL. Total cost including transfer fee and shipping was $396 (there is NO sales tax). Right now they are on back order, but SOG usually gets them in about every 2 weeks. I had to wait 11 days for mine, but it was worth the wait. What a great shooting mil-spec 1911. Here they are if you want to put your name on the list.

I'd be willing to give a RIA "Tactical" a try.
I bought one for 445.00 out the door...now I have shot about 4-500 rounds thru it and no problems until I ran winchester BEB rounds thru it. It did not like that round and fired great after I switced rounds. My wife now loves the RIA as much as I do. When we go shooting, she grabs the magazines and starts loading them with a smile on her face. Says she's shooting it first, and I'm the perfect gentleman. Plus, she is really getting to be a great shot with my .45 and her shotgun. I will be getting a SW CS9 very soon and she can have that...I'll then get my RIA back.
I carry a Rock Island 1911 Compact (not tactical) with Trijicon Night sights i had installed
I love the gun, never any problems of any kind, and it shoots great
id definitely recommend these to anyone
Got mine through Bellshire guns on Gunbroker, paid 406 shipped
