Talked to S&W,what does this mean?

Well I sent my 340M&P back to S&W for what appeared to be a crack where that barrel meets the frame. S&W has had it since 6/11 so I called them for a staus report yesterday. They told me that my gun was being sent to customer service from the warrenty department and they would let me know what they were going to do about it.

Now my quesstion is for those who have used S&W customer service what does it mean when they say this?

I'm pretty sure it means that the warranty dept. has sent it over to customer service.

If I had to guess, the warranty department probably looks it over to decide if the damage falls into whats covered or not. Customer service would then decide on the remedy; fix it, replace it or let you know they are not going to do anything and send it back.

    Just my guess.

My guess is they are gonna ask you some more questions and then replace it.

They'll treat you very well...and I believe it means that customer service is going to make it 'right'.

I hope the make it right I've heard good things about S&W customer service so I'm not to worried about it. I really like this gun and if it is a crack in the frame then obviously its a defect in workmanship so I would think this would be covered under a warranty.

If you were unsure about what it meant, you should have asked them while you still had them on the phone. As one poster said, it probably means that the warranty dept. made a determination as to whether the damage/defect is covered. Since it's being forwarded to customer service, I would hypothosize that it will be repaired and covered by the warranty. However this is just my op.

I did ask them but the man I spoke with said he wasn't sure as it was only his third day there. so I figured someone here at DC who's dealt with this same situation with S&W customer service could maybe clue me in as to what to expect.

Sorry, I would have asked for someone who had more time there. I wouldn't have left it at that. Lesson learned though. I'm sure it'll work out ok, just keep hammering at them for a clear and concise answer, after all, you paid the money for it and now you don't have it, that would make me call until I received a clear answer.

Then ask to speak with another rep, or better yet, a manager or supervisor.

I recently sent my 442 back and there is a 4-5 week backlog for repairs/replacements. Not hearing anything from them is good, as it means it is in line for a gunsmith.

If you left good contact numbers, the gunsmith that is going to make your new frame will call you when he is underway.

They replaced my internal lock frame with a no-lock; so I don't have any complaints about them.

To me it means that their customer service sucks when compared to SIG...
