    New Kahr PM45.....

    Kind of!
I just traded for a LNIB Kahr PM45 and have to say it is one nice pistol. The stand up guy i traded with says he only ran 60ish rounds through it and it shows.
Could you Kahr PM45 owners please tell what self defense ammo you use? Only reason I ask is in another forum one owner was experiencing problems with Hornady ammo not chambering and sure enough my pistol will not chamber a round. I use the slide release like the manual says. The slide does not return to battery and the round gets the slide jammed. I took a minute to get it undone but finally it dropped out.
Has anybody had the same problem?
    Thanks!

You picked a fine weapon. You should run 200-300 rounds of ammo through it to reach flawless functioning. Any 230 gr. Ball practice ammo should serve you well. I carry Wincheater Ranger 230 gr. hollow points in mine and they feed fine. I also sent you a PM.

    My Kahr PM45 works great.

When I first bought it I also bought 4 boxes (50 rounds each) of Federal 185 JHP. I figured if I had to shoot a break-in with the gun it might as well be with defensive ammo, something I might carry. In that first 50 round box of Federal 185 JHP I had 4 failures to feed. I wasn't too impressed I switched to Federal 230 Hydra Shocks and they fed fine, so did Winchester Ranger. Well, after about 150 rounds through the gun (I cleaned it somewhere in there) I tried the Federal 185 JHP again and the pistol fed 100 rounds of it without a problem.

I would get the ammo you want to carry Hydra Shock, Golden Saber, whatever and shoot 100+ rounds of it through the pistol; if it works okay then you'll know what to use.

You do not have to break your kahr in with carry ammo, you can break it in with the cheapest fmj you can find, I have owned three of them and they all function flawless after the needed break in with 2-300 rounds shot thru them. I currently own the CW40 and PM40 and they both run great with whatever I put in them, but they are broken in.

Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel. If you are having issues with feeding, you may want to try Corbon Pow'r Ball. It is also great ammo.

Both good choices...but there are many brands to choose from...if it runs well in your gun...then it's good to go (SD).

    Nice trade, by the way.

    PM45

    .

Congrats on your new pistol !

    I've got a PM40 and love it.

One thing on your PM45 though. I would call
a 900 fps floor on any carry ammo in that
gun. Some won't make it in a 3 inch barrel.
You really need 900 fps for reliable expansion.

    Just something to consider.

But some folks say 0.451 inch is good enough already.

Few if any 230 gr. bullets will hit 900 fps even from a 5'' barrel.
Here are some chrono readings from my PM45 (avarage of 5 shots)
    Federal 185 JHP @ 856 fps
Remington 185 JHP @ 889 fps (as close to 900 fps as we are getting without a +P load)
    Federal 230 gr. HS @ 781 fps
    Winchester 230 gr. Ranger T @ 832 fps

I carry the Ranger T because 832 fps is a good velocity for a 230 gr. bullet and that one carries the highest level of KE of the loads I tested. If you want to break 900 fps the Remington 185 +P should do it, but I'm betting that 230 gr. Ranger T will expand.

All of these 45 hollow point bullets were fired from a compact Glock into water (it's what I had available).
Silvertip, Gold Dot, Ball (not fired into water), and Ranger T

    Congrats!!
