9mm's for those on a budget. These won't last long.

I'm 3 hours late leaving for a trip--due to my procrastination and numerous other excuses --but I want to pass on this deal in case anyone is looking for a reliable 9mm that won't cost a lot.

Budsgunshop has some S&W 6906 police trade-ins that IMO are a great bargain. They are roughly the same size as a Glock 19 or a Sig 229. They are double-stack, 12+1, and some or all have Hogue grips on them. Worn, yes, but still there.

As are most police trade-ins, these guns show signs of external wear. My guess is that many have been carried a lot, but fired little. Another guess is that if one had been a lemon, the police department would have gotten rid of it or gotten it fixed long ago. For those who aren't uncomfortable carrying used guns, these might be right for some.

The 6906 IMO and my reading has a great reputation for reliability and carryability. They are not a full-size gun like the 5906: they're a little shorter in the barrel and the grip. However, the 5906 mags will fit, so one could have a 17+1 with Mecgar mags. The 17 mags will stick out about 1/4" at the bottom, but one can buy a plastic spacer for about $5 that will make it look like a full-size grip if one has the regular (non-Hogue) grips on it.

$299, plus just a couple bucks for shipping.

Last week they had 51, this morning they are down to 22. They won't last long.

The history on the 6906 is that it was a reliable gun, but it isn't being made any longer. They are getting harder and harder to find. There is a NIB one on one of the selling sites for $700. That's a bit high, but still...

Gun is DA/SA, with a safety/decocker. However, the safety/decocker doesn't need to be on when carried. The DA trigger is more than enough to keep it from accidentally firing unless one commits a serious breach of trigger discipline. The DA first shot is comparable to a revolver trigger.

All metal guns, won't work for those who like polymer.

Won't work for many, but for some, it's a great deal.

Now, grady, STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER!!

This is certainly something to look into for someone wanting a dependable firearm for SD/HD and and has limited funds...

    Thanks for the heads-up Grady.

They are great guns and is my original carry gun is a 6946. I still have it and carry it sometimes. It has never failed to fire and was a used police gun.

    Buy it.

I've got a 6906 police trade in. Great gun! Easy to tear down and clean, shoots great, and was $299. I added the Hogue grips and replaced the recoil spring to make it an extremely nice 9mm.
