I have been carrying a subcompact for a while and have realized that most of the time I could carry a higher capacity, full size gun as my EDC. Christmas is soon and other than an O/U 12 gauge, the dream 1911 I have always wanted, what ever I don't already have, and the toy list, for now I would prefer the more practical and useable.
So I would like your opinions (why do you prefer) on the highest capacity, best gun, in 9MM, 45ACP, or 357SIG (I prefer these rounds) for concealed carry…
I think this comes down to personal preference.
Glock
I carry an XDm 9mm. 20 rounds in the gun, comfortable, reliable, easy to shoot and accurate. It is no larger than your "dream 1911", and likely costs less than half as much.
This thread could get LONG my friend, your gonna hear alot of people say "Glock" or "XD" or 1911, or Hk and on and on and on.... like posted prior, its all personal preference. Now Im not a glock guy (but I did find a glock 22RTF i have to have :smile:) A few weeks ago, I would have responded to your post as GET AN XD!!!! just because its my personal choice, but this site has changed my view of buying a weapon and recommending one, Rather what you should do is go to your local gun shop, and try as many as you can, try Glocks, Springfields, 1911's, hk's, smiths, try them all... What feels good? what trigger do you like? Which one can you shoot the best with... What are you most confident with... then you'll find your perfect match...

Look at the Glock, or a similar XD. My preference is for the Glock, but I understand some folks like the grip on the XD better.
I like the simplicity of the Glock, the fact that is does not have the XD's grip safety, and the fact that the Glock mags are metal reinforced plastic - less likely to dent if dropped than an all-steel mag.
The Glock has a lower bore axis, which for most means faster follow-up shots, compared to the XD - due to less muzzle flip.
The M&P is an option too, but I don't like their trigger safety (an upper and lower hinged trigger) - I don't see how that is a trigger safety at all. I prefer the 'trigger within a trigger' safety like the Glock and XD - something has to be all the way inside the trigger guard to pull the trigger - merely catching the edge won't do it.

That being said, GLOCK 21. 13 +1 of .45acp.
I am trying to get a feel for what is out there in those calibers, I am aware of the glock and xd, have handled glock but not the xd and not enough with the glock to purchase. There are so many here who have experience with a lot of guns (ruger sr9, taurus, smiths etc...), I would prefer the make and model and specs which made it your prefered.
How about a Glock (second best) with a beta mag. Now that's high capacity!

I would have to chime in and say Glock or SA if you want a XDM with higher capacity.
I may or may not be in the minority here, but capacity is secondary to me.
IMO, the best gun to carry is the one you are most comfortable with. In a high stress situation, you want something that will fit your hand like it was a part of you.
My primary carry is a Sig P220 in .45, 8+1 capacity.

I'm partial to the G19 from Glock.
16 rounds of 9mm, more if you use a G17 mag, or a 33 round mag(not recommended for deep concealment)

compact, still a good size grip
simple (pull trigger=bang)

it will probably be easier to find 9mm ammo sooner than 45, not to mention price
easy to field strip and clean

it's already ugly so you don't have to worry about slide wear or getting it dirty
No offense to .45 acp or 1911's, fine caliber and even finer gun.
