.357 Pocket Snubbie W/O Internal Lock?

The search is on for the "perfect" pocket gun. I'd like to go with a .357 lightweight snubbie partly so I won't have to add a caliber. I'd get a S&W right now, but won't give in to the Hillary Hole. Is there a model without the internal locking mechanism or do you think that S&W might bring back a lightweight .357 Mag without The Hole? There's always the 642/442 (some are holeless), but I'd have to add .38's to the mix which I'd like to avoid.

I doubt you'll see any new guns from S&W without the security feature. Once something like this gets started it seldom stops.

There's nothing that says you have to use it, if your gun has one. My PT140 has a security lock - I tried it once and then promptly put the key in a drawer and forgot about it. If my grandchildren are in the house, I'm either carrying or the gun is in the vault.

I understand the aversion to the lock on S&W revolvers, it isn't reliable. I'm one of those people that has personally experienced a IL failure, so I know they really happen.

I only own one lock gun, a S&W 21-4. I removed the flag that allows the lock to lock. Yes, the hole is still there and it is still ugly, but its not possible for it to lock up due to lock failure. That is always an option for the J-frame .357 Airlite.

S&W might eventually bring back more lockless guns. I wouldn't hold my breath, but the 442/642 are currently production without the IL, as are the 40 and 42 (but they have a grip safety).

I removed the flag on mine and now have peace of mind. Not hard to do.

You could get a ruger SP101. No locks at all.

You might consider a used S&W 640 which is an all stainless steel gun. Mine is about 10-12 years old and doesn't have the Hillary Hole. It's not an airweight, but recoil is still substantial.

The lock thing kinda bothers me a bit being I have a 340 M&P. I've researched countless threads and have not found the 340 M&P to have one single documented case its lock failing. There a whole lot of 340 M&P owners over at the highroad.org and no one there has ever reported such a failure either.

I've never use the lock and yes I carry my 340 everyday, everywhere its legal. Now I won't lie to anyone,I really, really wish the lock wasn't there but I love this gun and don't lose sleep over it.

Now please don't flame me here I'm not saying these things can't or don't or haven't happened. I'm saying that to my knowledge its never happened my specific make and model of gun.

I've also put a lot of magums through mine as well.

I have an SP101 too. Its a fantastic gun and I do carry it in my pocket, but it isn't a pocket gun in the same way a 340 is. If you can deal with the weight, the SP is dead nuts reliable and pretty easy to control with magnum loads.

Is there a holster/mode of carry that many SP101 owners seem to gravitate to?

I use a DeSantis Nemesis for pocket carry and a Milt Sparks VM2 for IWB/Belt carry.

I have started having problems with the lock in my 340... I will be deflagging it soon. Until I do it is OUT of service.
