Modify an XD9 Service toXD9 Compact

I saw a while back where a guy took a service XD9 and used his dremmel to cut the grip to accomodate the SC mag's. I searched these forums and google in general...anyone know of info on this?

    Thanks

Guys originally did that to Glocks to make a G19 with a G26 grip, G17 with G19 grip, etc. Kind of, ummm, interesting.

It just sounds silly to do IMHO......why mess with a perfectly good working gun....Don't do it!!!!

Go to xdtalk.com, all kinds of threads over there about the XD, and how to chop the grip. Personally I would never do this. I bought a XD40 Service for the bedside, and a XD40 sub-compact for carry.

I am practically having a fit just thinking about taking a dremel to my XD. That just seems like a disaster waiting to happen!!! Save your pennies, but a SC, and keep your tactical for HD.

I had a SC and didn't like the brick feel of it. I missed the 4" length.

Doesn't bother me at all...its plastic and there are sleeves to extend the grip back out so no worries. I am not carrying it for a job so, eh!

Thanks for the link though...I will review it.

Just by a sub-compact! It will always look like a hack job, and if you wanted to, you will never be able to sell it. Guys put pics up of the XD's that they butchered and I just cringe! Uneven, gaping gaps between the mag and frame, the bottom of the grip looking like a beaver chewed it off...

There are some places that do it professionally, and it looks "OK", but IMHO, if you want a short grip, sell yours and buy a sub-compact.

IMO, if the work is done cleanly, there is no reason not to do it - I like the sub-compact grip with 4" bbl/slide. Since the grip is the hardest part to conceal, it gives you the added performance and accuracy of the 4" barrel while making the gun easier to carry - and there is nothing stopping you from carrying full sized magazines as reloads!
