I have had a Ruger Sp101 for a couple years now and have liked the gun alot. However there were a few things that would bother me about it; specifically the long heavy double action trigger pull, the hammer as it would dig into my side, and the finish was scratched up.
Brought it to my favorite gunsmiths, JoJos Gunworks in Southington, CT JOJO'S Gun Works; who are local to me which is great.
I had the hammer bobbed, a simple action job, and bead blasting. The trigger is very smooth now and much easier to shoot, but kept the stock springs. It is amazing to me how much easier it is to shoot.
I wanted to keep it low key as it is for CCW, but also wanted to make it my own and feel that I have accomplished that. I love how it came out. I had already installed a Trijicon night sight and like how it helps me pick up the front sight in low light.
The only thing I am debating is the grips. I have Hogues but they are too large so I may try the compac grips from Pachmayr.
A few quick pictures:
For now I am using a Comp-tac paddle for when camping and hiking. I am waiting on a Tucker Cover-Up for it and when that comes in, this will go into the CCW rotation.
