Just got my Ruger Sp101 back from the gunsmith

I have had a Ruger Sp101 for a couple years now and have liked the gun alot. However there were a few things that would bother me about it; specifically the long heavy double action trigger pull, the hammer as it would dig into my side, and the finish was scratched up.

Brought it to my favorite gunsmiths, JoJos Gunworks in Southington, CT JOJO'S Gun Works; who are local to me which is great.
I had the hammer bobbed, a simple action job, and bead blasting. The trigger is very smooth now and much easier to shoot, but kept the stock springs. It is amazing to me how much easier it is to shoot.

I wanted to keep it low key as it is for CCW, but also wanted to make it my own and feel that I have accomplished that. I love how it came out. I had already installed a Trijicon night sight and like how it helps me pick up the front sight in low light.
The only thing I am debating is the grips. I have Hogues but they are too large so I may try the compac grips from Pachmayr.

    A few quick pictures:

For now I am using a Comp-tac paddle for when camping and hiking. I am waiting on a Tucker Cover-Up for it and when that comes in, this will go into the CCW rotation.

Very nicely done, I have the Pachmayr compacts on both my Colt DSs, they are very comfortable for small hands and conceal well.

    Very nice!

I have an SP101 that was worked similar to your's with the exception of the bead-blasting. I also put a Hi-Viz type Front Sight on that my Gunsmith made for me and the load I shoot. It took some trial and error, but we finally got it down pat.

I like the factory stocks on the SP101 but also have a set of Hogue's that I use from time to time.

very NICE! I tried the Pachmyr Compaqs on my SP101 and found they made the LOP just a hair too long for my tastes but they did absorb more of the recoil than stock. I returned to the stock grips for a better reach with my trigger finger.

    I do like that finish!

PS, did you install the night sight yourself? I've often wondered how hard it is to do that?

Nice look to it, plus the bobbed hammer makes it more functional for carry!

Looks great, some rosewood would look really nice... but, I'd choose a soft rubber grip of some sorts for a fightin pistol.

Take a look at Gemini Customs LLC - Custom 1911 Firearms, they've got ALL KINDS of goodies (sights, grips, etc.) for the SP101. It's a favorite revolver of mine. Very nice Ruger ya' got there, congrats!

NICE! I bought one for the wife and wanted the hammer bobbed. Now I have the reason. The bead blasting looks great too, low glare for night ops.

Did you have the trigger re-worked or a new lighter trigger set installed?

I installed the front sight myself, with a drill press it is not that difficult.

The original trigger is still there, it was just smoothed and cleaned up. The stock springs were also kept so it is all original parts. It makes for a very nice and smooth pull. A great gunsmith can really do wonders sometimes with stock parts.
