That was actually John Browning talking to you in your sleep. Heed his advise and by a 1911.

If I bought a gun everytime I dreamed about one, I'd live in an armory.
    Wait, maybe I already do

    Well yes, yes it does!

    Dream about 1911

Are you part Indian? In some American Indian cultures if you dreamed it you had to do it. I read about a Huron who dreamed he swam under a lot of river ice. Next day he went out and swam under the river ice and survived. Indian or not I don't think you have a choice. Just go buy one regardless of anything else. It will help the economy.

    Baby steps!

Window shop first. Finger as many different brands and models you can get your mitts on! Don't shy away from the bottom of the food chain either...like the Milspecs or GIs. Sometimes people just don't want high end custom. Finger them...finger them all if you can!

Set a budget and stick to it within $100-$200. Make a shopping list of what features you want, brands you prefer, then models you prefer that all fit your criteria.

Best of luck finding your "fit" in a 1911. They're a world all their own...I've owned a bone stock Milspec and built a GI Champion into a full custom. Once you find that one 1911 that fits and shoots how you want it to, you'll always come back to one.

You go and handle a few - Obsess about them and then buy one - Repeat as necessary.
Proven combat techniques may not be flashy and may require a bit more physical effort on the part of the shooter. Further, they may not win competition matches, but they will help ensure your survival in a shooting or gunfight on the street. ~Paul Howe

Well, I dreamed today (I work at night) that I was assigned to a protective detail (I work for a big-city PD) to help guard our current President for a night. Does that mean I have to vote for him?

I had three Kimbers, and all gave me headaches and drama. IMHO, which is based on experience, pick another 1911 brand.

I had two Colt Government Models that were reliable; the first needed a 200-round break-in, but was then 100% reliable, the other was 100% from round one.

I had a early Springfield Armory, Inc., 1911 in Government size that was 100% reliable from round one.

My Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special has been 100% reliable from round one.

I had less luck with more compact versions of brands from Detonics to ODI to Colt. I am a believer in 5" 1911s.

I have two Kimbers. I also have a Marlin 336 in stainless which I wouldn't part with, so I would advise buying the Kimber via some other means than getting rid of that classic lever action 30-30.
