True. One advantage of pocket carry.

But - the Smartcarry would allow the OP to carry his XD, which is a better handgun than anything small enough to fit in a pocket. And he could also carry a spare mag.
The more good folks carry guns, the fewer shots the crazies can get off.

Thanks for all the replies btw! Lots of good advice and I will be looking at some of the suggestions here in the future.
Take a look a the NAA Guardian, 32acp, 32NAA or .380. Much easier to find.

+1 on the NAA Guardians in 32 acp or 380, but it must be impossible to find 32NAA caliber ammo.

Had to wait about three and a half months for mine. It was worth it. Mine has a personalized serial number.

    Avoid anything chambered for .380.

Besides being very marginal for self-defense, it's also getting hard to find ammo, and .380 ammo is currently running almost double the price of 9mm.

I recommend one of the following:

Buy a Smartcarry holster and continue to carry your XD Compact.
    Buy a Kahr PM9.
    Buy a 3" 1911.
"I've run across shooting after shooting where the defender shot a violent aggressor with a .380 and did little to immediately stop his depredations. A good hollow point load in 9mm or .38 Special will, historically, end lethal assaults more quickly."

I'm going to keep milking you all for information if I can.

I am liking the idea of the smartcarry now that I have done a bit of research on it. Would any of you smartcarry owners out there recommend the normal version or the security version. Is the security worth the extra cost?

Security version all the way. If you don't want to use it, it's not in the way, but if you need it to store something, it's great!

I'll never order a SmartCarry without the security option. Ever. I've stuffed entire guns and holsters into the security pouch when I needed a place to stash a gun. I put my wallet and keys there when I jog.

Plus it adds another layer of material between you and the gun(s) to help keep them dry.

    Good investment. I'd do it.

I love my Sig 232. I carry it in summer and it fits perfectly into the cargo pocket of my shorts (Blackhawk pocket holster). I have no interest in the caliber wars. The 232 is very accurate and three rounds center mass should get the BG's attention.

Lots of good options, get a good holster for your XD and get a pocket gun, go 9mm if your pockets are big enough or your build conducive, if not... anyone can conceal a 380 or 32 unless you wear skin tight leather!
