I liked my G36 so much that I got a second one. During a range session with my son, and he shot a 5 shot group with the 36 that you could have covered with a 50 cent piece @ 11 yds. My son's look of admiration for that gun was so obvious, I gave him one of the 36s for his birthday. It is now my son's carry gun, and I wouldn't have given it to him if I did not have 100% confidence in it!

Although I've been carrying my Kahr lately [smaller and lighter], I do like my G36 pretty well. I think that most of the problems you will read about are user induced [i.e. FTE due to limp wristing].

The 36 was the most problematic Glock years ago. From what I've been reading the last couple years, they've really started to iron most of that out.
I would have no reservations about buying a G36.
