My California 10-day waiting period was over at 2:00PM today. So at 2:45 I picked up my new Taurus 85. By 3:15 I was at the range. I put five rounds into a practice target and then shot the next thirty into my qualifying target (CA requires you to qualify for each weapon on your permit.) 30/30 and then off to the Sheriff's Office. By 4:15 the snubby is now on my permit and I'm loving it.
In SA, it is a dream to shoot. In DA, it is crisp and very manageable.
I will say that muzzle flash is pronounced (shooting Remington UMC .38 spcl). My carry ammo will be Hornady Critical Defense which is supposed to have less flash (like a dummy, I left it at home).
So, 1.5 hours after signing for it I'm legally carrying the snub-nose. :danceban:
I did a Home Depot walk with it in the front pocket (no holster, it should be here tommorow from Cheaper Than Dirt).
Congrats. I looked at one of these at the pawn shop and I thought they wanted an arm and a leg. Went to the local gunshop, they had 2 in stock, nice, not to expensive, but I went for an auto this time.
Next time, it will be a snubby. How does it feel to shoot? Is it snappy or manageable.
This will serve as an alternate to the XD for dirty work days and will also be a BUG. CA (at least in my county) requires a 7 yard qualifying shoot. You are required to get 26 of 30 in an oval approximately 8" x 10".
Picked an 85SS up on Wednesday and took it out and put 50 rounds through it today. VERY nice shooter. I'm not at all displeased with it. Not much to grip though.
Congrats on the snub! Great thing about a revolver is they go BANG" every time you pull the trigger. In over 37 years I have never had a FTF / FTE issue with any of my S&W's. Cannot say the same of my semi's.
Try Keltykes advice. The trigger WILL improve dramatically with a set of Wolffs' in it. Very cheap improvement that will definately improve your accuracy. Mr. Wolff knows his springs!!!! They are the only ones I will use in any of my handguns.
As a former T85 owner you should enjoy it tremendously. I still wish I had my T85. Good gun!
