I just ran the 500th round of 9mm Makarov through my used Hungarian FEG PA-63 with zero malfunctions. This is one very reliable handgun for $125. I think they were police or army surplus.
The Russian Silver Bear 9mm MAK ammo is inexpensive, available, and reliable (but not reloadable). My reloads also function 100% with Lee cast lead bullets.
It has become the new "car gun" and lives under the driver's seat.
I have two of them and find them very reliable and very accurate. I keep one in my GT that has wolf springs. I also polished all trigger components with 800 grit paper, made a big difference in double action trigger pull. While I had it apart I also polished the feed ramp and champered the hood. That little pistol will eat any thing you feed it.
The 9mm Mak round is IMO a very hard hitting round. The Russians were looking for something between the 9x19, over penetration and loss of energy out the back of one shot, 9x17 or 380acp, not enough power and general poor performer with ball ammo. The answer was 9x18 Mak IMO maybe the best performer of the three when using FMJ. When you go HP the pitcher changes. But for what this ammo was designed for it works very well. I shoot PA63 and really like the SA trigger. Being a single stack mag allows the weapon to fit my hand very well. One of the best weapons for the money that I have ever shot.
