    Carry Ruger LCP

What do you think of carrying just a ruger lcp for primary. The other Gun forum wouldn't allow people to talk about these so called "mouse guns" i am just wondering what you all have to say about them. good/bad? maybe it''s better for a backup ankle carry gun? let me know your thought~!~

I do it. Not all the time. Normal carry is Glock 26 (9mm) but at times, depending on what I am wearing, where I am going, etc, I carry my LCP. It is a bit underpowered, but I put HD ammo in it. Better that than nothing at all.

Well it's not a new concept by any means, but a ruger lcp or (fill in the blank) being carried by you is much more useful than a .45 at home. By the way, I think that if members of other forums are unable to grasp that concept, as you hinted at, then there is nothing you can really say to them at that point. Anyways, if you are able to produce your weapon in a self defense situation, you'll probably be only a few feet from the assailant/threat and I would think that any caliber including 22lr applied generously to the face or heart would have a pretty profound and immediate effect.

The primary use of my Ruger LCP is my BUG. It makes a crackerjack back up gun.

That said. With today's modern incarnation of .380 ammunition, it seems to get diss'd more than it should. There are some pretty decent .380 rounds out there for personal defense.

Here's the bottom line. And it's always been the bottom line regarding the .380.

If you got a .380 on your pocket, it sure beats the heck out of the gun you left at home because it was too big to carry.

I carried a .380 as a primary off-duty gun for years. I would not hesitate to carry one again.

I'm 4" shorter and 5 pounds heavier. I carry at least two guns, prefer 3.

If you wish to carry a talisman and are not serious about carrying a gun, have at it. I think Clint Smith said it best when he said, "Carrying a gun should be comforting and not necessarily comfortable."

The smallest two calibers I own for defensive usage are 38 SPL and 9mm. The 38 SPL, since it is a "Snubbie" is relegated to the BUG role, but I much prefer the 2 1/4" SP101 in that role due to it's caliber, .357 Magnum, and relative power. I would have no problem with a 4" 38 SPL as a "primary" off duty gun, or on duty for that matter.

If you need a more in-depth answer please me my thread "Mousegun Rant".

I carry a LCP mainly as a BUG to my EDC and also for deep concealment. JMO, but I think if you load that puppy up with the Hornady Critical defense or one of the other better JHPs and have it at the ready, you're pretty well defended. Basically, it's a 9mm short traveling just under 1000 fps and with good shot placement will kill ya as dead as any other handgun. The .380 rounds of today really are way more advanced then years ago, and they have the ballistics to back it up.

Bigger is better, but carry what you feel comfortable with and carry it always. A .380 in your pocket beats the .45 you left at home. Heard that somewhere, but can't put my finger on it...

    Cheers!

Even with your small stature, I don't see any reason you can't carry a 2" snubby in .357 Mag. Also I've never actually compared the two, but a 3" 1911 in .45ACP couldn't be much bigger than a LCP.

check out the kahr pm45 if you wanna see a small .45. it's thicker than an LCP, but not a whole lot bigger.

The crazed out drug addict that takes six rounds before going down makes for big headlines, but I think that 99.99% of the time one shot from a 380 is going to change someones mind. In my 50+ years I've never had to shoot anyone yet, so I'm not going to set around and worry about that one in ten thousand time that it might not work. You can only get so paranoid before they put you in a white suit. JMHO

Just a thought: One of male my colleagues is about 5'4" and carries a SIG in 357-SIG. He uses a Smart Carry and you would never know he was armed.

I think it is a nice little piece of under-powered mostly plastic.
.380 ammo is hard to come by for most and at 95 gr. it does not have the stopping power for self defense.

About ankle Carry, I know one local police department around here that has banned on-duty ankle Carry of the LCP or Kel-tec as a back-up.

Of course it's not perfect, but if it's an LCP in your pocket beats your other two or three guns at home. It's got a slot in my options, and for the moment, is what gets carried by me (in the rare times I need to ccw).

Anybody that carries anything less than a 50 AE with 6 extra mags is a wuss!!!!!!!!

I carry my little KelTec 380 as a Primary alot! Its easy, accurate and reliable!
The LCP is a great little gun as well, Ruger copied the KelTec.. Practice with it alot.
