Racking slide with heel of hand

I was reading an article on sights and it mentioned that, for a cc gun, some people choose a rear sight which aids in a "heel of hand" rack. I tried racking the slide on my Taurus 24/7 OSS and Taurus PT 745 and there is just NO WAY!

Can you rack you slide with the heel of your hand? If so.. What gun?

    Better question is why bother?
Unless you can't grip, I don't see the point. It's showing off, like using your heel, belt or pants. To me, those are only under consideration if my weak hand is unavailable.

Well, I don't get that either. I don't think it's happening. For those who like to bleed, I'm sure there are easier ways of doing it. Got to be some sort of marketing scheme for some specific crowd, or the author of the article you read has no clue. I would enjoy reading the article mentioned if you'd be so kind as to leave a link. Maybe we could figure out what's going on from there.

It's easy enough to do a rear sight rack against the top of a kydex holster. Haven't tried the heel of hand method though.

That sounds like a painful idea, considering how sharp most sights are.

I dont use sights. I can rack it on my shoe....pushing on the slide just above the barrel at the end of the gun. You should practice that.

That sounds like the Kimber SIS that has a flat-front front sight so you can rack it against any hard-edge surface. Gimme a break.

Sounds like a good way to ruin your rear sight, racking the slide with it against anything.

Unless you are both Disabled and under attack , this would be a

Cycling the slide on any of my Glocks requires a firm grip on the grooves and a good hard yank. Using only the heel of the hand would be impossible for me.

It's not the 'heel of your hand'....it's your HEEL...the one on the bottom of your shoe.

There is some training that includes this tactic if your weak arm is out of commission. It uses the heel/rear sight to rack the slide......There are actually some rear sights designed for this...........

I have practiced this with a couple of my handguns...it seems to work pretty well......

Some say stupid...I say not. It all depends on how much further you want to continue your training? Why do we sometimes practice shooting without a support hand? Why do we sometimes practice shooting with our weak hand? Are all those things "moronic"? Why do we do them knowing the best shot is strong hand with support? Sounds retarded(moronic) then.

We practice for the "what if's". I myself would like to know that I can effectively operate my weapon with only one hand.
