Dual Range Report: Para OPS & Warthog

Earlier this week I snuck out to the range and tested out my two new Para’s. Last week I put 150 rds. through the OPS and then found out that the spring assembly plunger rod was bent. Para sent me a new one and this was the test. I had not fired the Warthog at all.

I set up a target with a 5.5” Shoot N C at 30’ and fired 50 rds. at each target. I put 150 rds through both pistols, 50 rds. of Rem 230 gr. FMJ, 50 rds. of Rem. 185 gr. FMJ and 50 rds. of S & B 230 gr. FMJ. Both guns functioned flawlessly.

The Warthog was up first. The recoil was a lot more manageable then I expected. The trigger left a bit to be desired. The little gun took some getting used to. The first 50 rds. were all over the paper gradually tightening the more I shot. The last 50 rds. were all well within the 5.5” circle, but I really had to work at it. I think it will take some practice to become really confident with the Warthog format. Still a nice little gun and obviously easy to conceal.

Next up was the OPS. The trigger on this pistol is incredibly better then the Warthog. In fact the first shot took me by complete surprise. A good reason to keep one’s finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. I lined it up and started to squeeze the trigger and it went bang, dead center. The OPS was a lot easier to shoot and (for me) a lot more accurate. I really enjoyed shooting the OPS. Double taps were faster and more controlled and the grouping was tighter.

I will make a few more range trips before carrying either, but I must say that I am leaning toward the OPS. It is a bit heavier and longer and with less magazine capacity, but easier to shoot and more controllable. It is still a very compact pistol. Currently I carry a Glock 26, but would prefer a .45.

Today I hit the range again with the Warthog. Put another 400 rds. through without a hiccup. I am really beginning to like the little pig. I tried some Double Tap 230 gr. JHP's, quite a handfull.

Sounds like the battle between OPS and pig is getting closer.

400 rounds with no glitches has to be good but if OPS is the easier shooter and more accurate then maybe the better carry choice.

    Thanks for the report.
My Warthog is still very new to me. Haven't got to the Range much with it. If I could have afforded it, I may have picked up an LDA model also.
