Compact 9mm 1911 That wont break the bank?

I'm wondering if there are any decent quality 9mm 1911's out there that aren't super high end like the kimbers and springfields. I really don't want to drop 800-1000 on a gun but I shoot 1911's much better then anything I have tried so far. Any suggestions?

The only thing that comes to mind is a used Para, but you'd probably be better off with the EMP.

STI has a couple 3" guns (LS9, Off Duty, Escort, and Rogue) in 9mm, but it's in the same price range as the others and I'd still rather have an EMP.

Yeah for any 1911 you're looking at at least $680. That's the cheapest i've seen and it was a pt1911 like i carry. Go ahead and spend the extra money to get a good one. 1911's are not cheap and if you find a cheap one it will probably be a mistake.

For example. My dad and I bought a lima (spelling?) 1911 and put 3 rounds through it. The slide release pin snapped in half and we has to use a screw driver to release the slide to get the live round out

I sure would like one too! Just sold a Colt 3" 1911 in .45 because I just wasn't good with it but I love the 1911. I'd like an EMP but my goodness they're expensive!!

I've done a lot of looking and research and never found an inexpensive 1911 in 9mm. They all seem to be $800+ and mostly +.

It's part of the reason I've ended up with 3 kahrs in 9mm.

    Good luck on your search!

I thought you LOVED the Taurus 709 and that it fit your budget. Has that changed? Seriously, if you have found a gun that you love, and it is inexpensive, get it, carry it, and spend your extra $$ on other things in life (practice ammo being a reasonable choice).

I just created a new thread on why I'm asking.

I'd suggest saving for the EMP. I'd like to have one but after packing a SA 1911 for 19 years I went with a H&K P7 PSP last year and retired the 1911 to my bedside. I've since went back to packing a S&W 19 snub with a model 36 as a BUG. Can shoot a revolver better than a semi as I learned to shoot on them YEARS ago and I never worry about malfunctions

The H&K is more reliable, accurate and cheaper to shoot than the .45 was. Did I say it's the most accurate factory 9mm I've ever shot.
Align sights, squeeze cocker and squeeze trigger. Round goes where you had the sights aligned.

If you are dead set on a 1911 platform the EMP is the only one I would consider. Great gun, but for the money they should of stipled or checkered the front strap.

The Model 1911 has been around for a long time but there are some variants. See the following:
