Had a Rossi .357 a while ago, but decided I'm strictly a semi guy. No knock on them, just my preference.

How can you tell if your PF9 has the plastic or the metal release?

There is a certain semi cirlce stamp on the outside of the release itself. I'm not at home, so I can't check. Go to a Kel Tec forum and they will tell you how to spot the difference. I think one is stamped with some circles and the other semi circles. I think the metal is the semi circle, but I'd surf around to find out for sure.

There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I've owned two Kel-Tec 3-ATs, two Ruger LCPs, one PF9 and several other 'pocket guns' that were unreliable, even the spendy little Kahr PM9. After hundreds of dollars invested in shipping, and even more test firing for reliability, I finally bought a S&W 642 Airweight for deep cover in a Smart Carry holster (with a Bianchi Speed Strip) and I no longer worry about THAT part of my arsenal.

For a slightly larger option, I carry either a G26 or G19 and never worry about THAT part of the arsenal either during the colder months when I can carry IWB or OWB or shoulder holster.

Others I've read about have never had an issue with any Kel-Tec or Kahr, so it seems to be a luck of the draw; however, reducing those odds to as close to zero as possible is why I carry Glock 90% of the time.

    IMHO

My PF9 is at about 1000 rounds and goes bang every time, even works for shooting Bill drills. My P3AT has about 150 rounds through it and no problems at all other than hard to find 380 ammo.

eagleks, My PF9 from Gander Mountian in Wichita did the very same thing. It had the plastic mag release. I called Keltec mad as can be. The nice lady on the other end said that she would put a Metal mag release in the mail that day, no charge. Three days later I got it and installed it in less than 15 minutes after looking up how to do the R&R on KTOG website. Not any problems after that. Good luck with the fix.

Pretty much my experience also...I went with a S&W 442 "no lock", and stepped up from Glocks to SIGs.

My Glock 19 misfired a few days ago--just one time--and my 23 jammed at the beginning of the month. Any automatic can create a problem of some kind, sooner or later. Are extra rounds worth the possibility of a jam during a gun fight? A lot of people think so.
