Do you rotate mags? How often?

I have a Ruger P89, Kahr PM9 and an LCP. I have 4 mags for each and always carry a spare so that 2 are always in service. I just rotated them out, with it being the new year I figured it a good place to start.

Looking for advice as to how often one should "rest" the springs on a mag. Thanks for your input and Happy New Year.

I usually rotate my carry magazines and ammo two or three times a year on average. I don't actually schedule them, it's just I get the notion it's time to do so.
By the way...once your magazines have been loaded to full capacity, the springs don't actually 'recover' or rest.

I disagree with this, I have seen fully loaded mags that were left for long periods fail, my brother Hi-power is on recent example of this.

I tend to either keep the mags loaded on less than full and/or rotate them every month or so.

    Agreed,

I rotate after every shooting range session....about once a month.

Not sure if its necessary, but I don't want my other mags to feel left out.

I rotate my mags between deployments. Helps make it easier to keep track.

no, I dont keep track one way or the other..about the only time they get possibly rotated is after I go to the range shoot all of them(3) and when im done I reload them with my CC/SD rounds and slap a random one back in the magwell..thats it..so it MAY be a different one and may not be lol..I dont know..only time I worry is if I start having a problem with a mag.

I agree I rotate the mags that I carry about once a month, I think this keeps the springs from getting soft.

My dad had magazines that had been loaded since Korea that all went off without a hitch. I don't overthink rotating mags and generally keep most all of them loaded. I pick a mag I'm going to put in the gun after a range session and run a couple mags through it to check function and go with it.

I sure hope people aren't carrying their carry gun downloaded to reduce wear on the spring. I'm going to stop wearing my seatbelt some of the time so I don't wear out the retracting spring.

Agreed. All four of my mags are always full. What good does a mag do if it's not loaded?

I really don't keep track unless I notice loaded mag's are just sitting for long without being used. I then take them out and light them up. Then I will leave them alone awhile. I pretty random with this.

My mags get rotated everytime I go to the gun range. That's the only time.

I tried rotating them, but they wouldn't fit backwards. (sorry couldn't resist)
