Took the G36 to the range today

I took my G36 to the range for practice today. Most trips I only fire 50 rounds. Today, I decided to have an extended practice session and shot 150 rounds at distances of 3 yards to 25 yards. My target was a 5" square piece of cardboard with a Shoot 'NC overlay.

My Glock 36 has a NY1 trigger installed, which I like a lot. Overall, I did fairly well. I tend to shoot 1 - 2 inches to the left. It is a grip thing mostly. With most other handguns, 15 yards is pushing the limits of my older eyes and sights. However, I was able to keep 5 out of 12 in the square at 25 yards. I feel certain the errant rounds would have been torso/com shots were I using a larger target.

Anyway, going to the range was a real treat for me since funds are tight right now. Fortunately, I have a range membership so it was no cost today, and I used ammo I already had. It was a nice way to celebrate my birthday.

One thing I did notice, is the Glock 36 gets much dirtier than the G19 for the round count. The 36 does not like to get dirty. There were 2 misfeeds, not stovepipes, but 2 failures to extract and feed. My experience with the Glock 36 is that when clean, it runs flawless, but when dirty, which is more than 50 rounds, it has reliability issues. Anyway, it was good strip and rip practice.

Sorry, I don't have pictures to share.

    Happy Birthday!

    No pics!

I suppose I could just post up my best groups at 25 yards with my SA Loaded 1911 for ya.

I don't think I was ever that good at 25 yards, not on my best day.

With a good DA revolver, or a standard glock trigger, I can shoot like that out to 7 yards or so. But with the NY1 trigger, I'm combat accurate.

    Happy Birthday!

I haven't notice any problem with FTE on my G36. You may need to replace the ejector. If it is worn, a dirty chamber can increase the frequency of FTE.

Another thing I do with more "sensitive" guns is to run a Bore-snake through every 100-200 rnds on long range trips.

    Good luck!

never had that problem with my 36. take my g36 to the range, shoot 200 rounds or better and it runs fine. and that is with reloads.

Love reading the post on G36. I just bought one home to try out and decide if I want to buy it. I am having some issues with concealing it with a T shirt summer wear type thing. Seems like the top of the slide prints just as much as my G22. Still in the process of getting enough ammo for range time. The gun belongs to my brother in law and has only been shoot 25 times. We still haven't set a price but I know it will be a good deal. Comes with a Kramer holster. FEDEX just dropped of two DeSanis IWB holsters for it yesterday. Will be heading to the barber shop with in a few minutes to try out one of the new holsters. Will be carrying like primary carry but will actually be BUG for S&W mod 60 carried like BUG.

    Thumbs up

Nice shooting! I've never been able to group like that @ 25 yds.

Hey, my coffee had not reached full saturation in my brain when I wrote this. It may be a worn extractor not the ejector.

Sorry, I will strive to drink my coffee well before I try to write!

I would describe the chamber as filthy, not just dirty. I think the brass casing was actually stuck to the chamber wall a wee bit. Anyway, I dropped the mag, pushed a range rod down the barrel, and got back into business. The ammo was Winchester White Box 230 grain fmj. This would never happen with my 1911's, but I don't have enough time with the G36 yet to know if I've got a parts problem or not.

I think the G36 is an excellent choice. I like mine. I don't carry it often, but when I do it rides in a no name leather slide holster. Fits very close to the body, very comfortable. Usually, I just carry the S&W 637. I find it very comforting.

give it more rounds/time to break in but remember one thing even though it is a Glock the Glock 36 for some reason is by far their most troublesome gun in cases that have been reported. I like Glocks for the most part(hate their grips) and after doing a LOT of research on this because I thought it may have better grips for CC and just feel better im steering away from it..this and Khar went off my list for the most part based on searches and the amount of troubles ive seen from both..this BTW is the ONLY Glock id steer away from all the rest seem to be great..I know even though its grips sucks and its a bit thick for comfortable CC that the Glock 23 is a great gun!

But if it does not clear up it would not be that great of a surprise.

    ctr,

Check the hook on the extractor. That is where you will see wear. It should have a smooth, straight edge not rounded or chipped. Also, check for fouling under the hook. If that has not been cleaned properly it will impede function.

As far as the ammo goes, WWB has run through mine without serious fouling. I don't know, maybe it was a "dirty" lot? Hard to say.

    Hope this helps. Good luck.

My first pistol was a Browning BDM. That particular gun was a bit tighter from the factory than normal, I think, 'cause it also had reliability issues when dirty. But, over time, after the gun had broken in and loosened up a bit, it began to run flawlessly. So, I simply developed a strict regimen of cleaning. I'd clean at the end of every range session; ended up using the UltimaLube grease by Wilson Combat, which dramatically reduced impacts from fouling. The grease was expensive, but it so obviously boosted reliability and smooth operation over extended sessions that I found it a decent value.

Sounds like you had fun! Any day outside with firearms is a good day.
