Colt's XSE SERIES COMBAT COMMANDER STAINLESS .45 ACP

Does anyone own one of these new Commanders? If so could you please let me know how they shoot, reliability and their overall quality.

I recently started packing my 77 vintage Browning HP that is in 99.9% condition and am having second thoughts on wearing the finish. Also don't want to lose it if I ever have to use it when needed.

Thanks QKShooter for the photo! I've had the BHP for 33 years and have babied it since I had it. It's just too darn pretty to these eyes for me to carry as my EDC.

For everyday carry I'd go with a Lightweight Commander (or even better, a utilitarian Glock 19).

I carry the SS combat commander xse,put big dot nite sites on it and yesterday at the range was popping clays at 25 yards consistently off hand,the xtra weight isn't very noticeable I carry OWB in a leather paddle holster I made based on the Don Hume 721,I just like more rake than the 721 and carry with a 30 degree cant

I dont thinks its "new".Its what I've been carrying for quite some time.

That's a good point I never thought of. How long do you lose a gun If it is found to be a justified shooting?

I would never want to give up my Defender.

i agree, would hate to loose my 30+ year old Combat Commander with all the work I've had done on it but if it saves your life, it has done it's job.......at least once.

Also, it used to be when you got a gun back from the PD is was all marked up and numbered with a Dremmel tool......saw that a few times done.

Also, would not purchase a new Colt with the "Fireing Pin Block".....don't want nothing blocking the fireing pin...ever.
That's why all my Horses ar Pre 80's.....when Colt was a force to reckon with.

I would never want to give up my Defender.

Usually you give it up until the case has been fully adjudicated.
Could be days, weeks, months or years depending on appeals.
Also, don't expect a gun that goes into evidence to be taken care of.
It will more than likely be tagged and thrown on a shelf.
If you are really unlucky, they'll engrave the case number somewhere on the gun before tossing it on a shelf.
No cleaning, oil or care whatsoever.
I carry a disposable Glock.

I was a little flush in January of 08, and gifted myself with an XSE LWT Commander. I was hoping it would be a good companion to my mid '90s Officer's, which has been flawless.

Initially, it was ok, then I had a lot of fail to feed issues. Went to extra power mag springs, no luck. Bought 3 Wilson mags, and to their disbelief, one had FTFs. Replaced it, and solved that issue.

Had to put a sear in, because the hammer liked to follow the slide.

Just got her running good, and I noticed the ambi safety is working loose,(I'm a lefty) the tongue and groove is spreading. Guess I will buy a stainless ambi, and trim up the left side like I did for the OACP.

I want to love this gun, but it is trying my nerves. I have a soft spot for the Colt name, so I might be silly enough to buy a Gold Cup to round out the set next time I get flush.

Has the "series 80" or "Schwartz safety" been proven to cause malfunctions? Or is it just a preference for you?

The designers name was "Swartz."
Colt never used it long enough to have any problems arise, and no manufacturer today uses the Swartz safety, Kimber's is only loosely based on the design. I'm not familiar with any documented malfunctions caused by the Series 80 firing pin block.
