They're both great guns. IMO, you should go to the range and rent both if possible. Only you will know which one you like more.

You will not be disappointed with either but here is some stuff to think about.
I have an M&P 1200+rounds though it no problems... I LOVE it! and like my signature says yeah it's American Made... XD's parts and/or barrels are being made in Croatia... just saying .... and make sure you go somewhere and shoot both first alot of gun ranges are renting guns now days.

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.

If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.

I traded a XD45 service for a MP45c. The XD service height was printing and I was going to save some money and get a XD compact. Springfield doesn't make a 45 compact . The salesman showed me the MP and I love it. I also like the manual safety. Had one on my XD.

mp45c, without question, is the way to go.

i've owned both, and had a horrible experience with the xd45. the m&p worked flawlessly.

XD45 is my next upcoming purchase. after the first clip at the range, I was in love. Never thought I was capable of a 6round-1.5" group at twenty feet until I tried this gun.

Here is a discussion on the XD:

XD's.....why do you all hate them so much? - M4Carbine.net Forums

    To summarize:

    1. Lack of parts and service for the XD compared to the M&P.
    2. XD has an issue with feeding other than round nose bullets. Using SWC could actually be destructive to your magazines.
    3. The marketing history of the HS2000 -> XD seems to annoy the M4 carbine guys.

The M&P slide is black and stainless, the XD slide is not (unless you cough up more money to get the stainless then its silver)

The M&P has 4 stainless rails and metal subframe as well as metal reinforcement in the polymer frame, the XD has 2 metal rails, 2 polymer rails and no subframe.

All that said I am not trying to bash XD... In fact I like my SA-XD 45 tactical. The mags are cheap and hold 13 rounds of .45 (16 with the 3 round extension), the tru-glo sights are sweet, its VERY accurate even out to 100 yards and its a blast to shoot at the range. I haven't had any problems with HP, ball or any +p rated ammo. It would be the one I would grab for the BoB.

I would go for the M&P. I have the FS M&P45 and the M&P9c and have been nothing short of impressed with them. Ergonomically better, low bore axis and very accurate...you'll be pleased.

Since there isn't too much love for the XD in this thread, i'll chime in.

I've probably run through 1500 rounds or so with my XD9sc and haven't had a single FTF, FTE, etc etc. (*knocks on wood*)

I've been 100% happy with it.

Okay here goes! I have had an XD9 for about 9 months and this gun has been flawless and I really don't have a bad thing to say about it. I understand that it's not the XD45, but I think I can get a good idea of what to expect.

Just recently I picked up an M&P 45 with the thumb safety and have shot a few rounds based upon a few range trips. I will say the same thing that I said when I picked up the XD after owning Glock's for years. The XD just seems to have a few more refinements then my Glock's did. The M&P seems to have a few more refinements then my XD. I frankly love the grip and the low bore axis! You can't go wrong with either gun, but the M&P would be my choice. When I hold each gun the M&P just does not seem so top heavy and sits right down in my hand. I hope that this honest assessment helps.

hey I gave XD love its great for what it was designed to do

The only thing I would object is the firing pin design and also the fact that you have to pull a roll pin to get the firing pin out. The M&P you can take the firing pin out with the included frame tool.

While I like this option with my M&P, I am usually lazy and just pull the trigger after the safety check. Then she disassembles just like the XD.

Actually I just compared these two side by side last week at my local gun shop. Two things that turned me off about the XP were the safety on the grip and the slide was MUCH harder to pull back than the M&P.

    It's all so personal.
