    How wide is a firearm?

A while back I was praising my Sig P-238 as being a fine carry gun as it's so thin.
Someone posted stats that claimed the Sig was 1.1" wide.
and the CZ Rami was 1.3" wide.

Since I have both I was stunned. I always criticize the Rami as being too thick to carry. But only .2" difference!

So today I got out the calipers and measured both.

The Sig 238 is actually .9" thick at it's widest. That is the slide with the Safety/decocker included. (the grips are thinner.)

The CZ Rami is actually 1 5/16" thick also at the same (thickest part)
    or about 1.31".

I see no part of the Sig that is 1.1" so I don't know how they measured. (Yes, the Sig website says 1.1" but it isn't.)

I would have sworn the Rami is twice the thickness of the Sig, it isn't, but the chart doesn't seem to be correct.
So, in shopping, hold every gun in your hand, don't go by the charts.

Yep, it doesn't take very much for a gun to feel too thick, or the grip too long. The slightest difference makes a big difference when you're carrying it...

My Glock 23 is advertised at 1.18" and my Kahr MK9 is .9" but based on the photo there does not look like a 1/4" inch between the two.

That 1.1" seems to be off. I'm not sure where they got that from, but mine measures .9 also. I find pretty much any double stack too thick for me to carry (Glock, XD, ext.) that's why I carry 1911's. I do own double stacks, but not for CCW.

It all depends on what part they measure. The part that's going to make it comfortable or uncomfortable to carry, as I've found is the grip. I have a Glock 36, which is SUPER SLIM compared to any of the others. The only difference is the grip thickness. I also have a Sig P239, once again, slim grip. I've carried a P229, THICK grip.

Revolvers are way thicker than most autos, however the grip: UBERthin (most of the time)
