S&W Model 640
I currently own a S&W Model 640 and have been satisfied with the results both on and off the range overall, with the exception of the sights (or lack thereof). I have recently noticed, however, that S&W has another version of the 640: The 640 Pro Series with Dovetail Night Sights.
Has anyone put their hands on this model? If so, is there a substantial increase in sight quality and overall performance?

I have the same model. The sights are not very good. I am considering putting crimson trace on mine.

I traded my 640 to a friend and he had a Big Dot put on it and the rear channel opened up a bit... looks so good I wish I had it back!

Re: S&W Model 640
Thanks for the advice. I, too, have considered Crimson Trace or altering the current front sight in some way.
I'll keep you posted on my search in case I find something we can all use.

I, too, can't wait for someone to report about the new pro series 640 with the night sights.

Isn't the pro series also ported? that would be the part I wouldn't like. I too have a 640-1 and hate the sights. I'd love to find a gun smith that can mount a XS big dot on the front for me but I'd want to use their "standard" sized sight. I think the Big Dot is too Big!

Good to hear that there are others are interested in the pro series 640. I don't think it is ported, but can't officially confirm that. I'm in the process of having a local gun shop bring one in for a test drive. I'll keep everyone posted.

You CAN have a beautiful Rear & a High Vis Front machined into your Model 640 revolver but, sadly the man/machine labor and parts costs about as much as a new firearm. Sure does look sweet though.
