First 1911 and first 45 Caliber
Well I purchased a "slightly" used (understated) from bluesteel. Took it home and tore it apart in about 20 minutes. Took me about 1.5 hours to put it back together after cleaning it, but I finally figured it out. I ordered some 230gr Winchester PDX1 from Tactical Defense Solutions and they arrived today. Now this is the first time I've SEEN a 45 bullet in person and all I can say is HOLY GOD! It looks like I'll be throwing a small boulder in the direction of the BG if it comes to that.
Here is a picture of the 1911.

it's a Colt! Great choice congrats! Similarly to your experience, I was at the range with an acquaintance who is a new shooter. He has a 9mm and that's the only experience with any kind of gun.
Anyway, he had asked me why I like the 45 ACP so much. So, I told him to close his eyes, and I put a 9mm in his hand and told him to roll it around. Then, I removed it and placed a 45 in his hand.......all he could say was Holy ......!!!!

Colt makes a fine 1911 in any variant, you won't be disappointed with it.
And they definitely take some work to figure out how to get them back together, lol!

An intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or oven spray, but if shot with a .357 Magnum will get angry and kill you.

I think the biggest problem for me was getting the parts for the firing pin safety back into the frame. Then I couldn't figure out how to put the spring back in and get the hammer to lock. Now that I understand how to do it, it will be much easier.

LOL! The mirror. Wonderful. Now I got my first laugh of the day out of the way............................................... .................................................. ...................

On your new to you 1911A1.
Now this is the first time I've SEEN a 45 bullet in person and all I can say is HOLY GOD! It looks like I'll be throwing a small boulder in the direction of the BG if it comes to that.
I'm really having a good time here getting through this reply. (catching my breath now).
Tore it apart in about 20 minutes? Not bad. 1.5 hours to put it back together? Gotta work on that, or tear it apart less. LOL!
All in all, I'm just about as excited as you obviously are. Your excitement may be short lived, but what should follow will likely be pride, and depending on how things go in the near future, it could all turn into love. Darned near everybody makes a 1911 model these days, but when you mentioned "HOLY GOD" in your post, you weren't far from the mark. You see, I firmly believe that Colt's model 1911 was made by man with help from God. Just like our US constitution. First experience I had with Colt and the 1911 was when Uncle Sam put one in my hand, and said "Always do your best for me, and take care of yourself and your brothers....we've found this tool to be most adequate in your pursuit of all the above."
What you hold in your hand now is pretty much a joint effort between God and man.........sort of an unspoken promise from God that if He cannot be there precisely in your moment of need, then this Colt 1911A1 should make time until He arrives. Manus Dei
