    New wheel for my rotation

A while back I gave my 642 to a good friend who didn't have anything to defend his home and family, so I sold him my 624 for a dollar. I never really used the wheel gun because I didn't really think the purchase all the way through when I bought it. I really like to be able to use a revolver with either SA or DA, but not DAO for the most part. So, I went out today looking for my next purchase and had my sights set on the PM9 or the P380 by Kahr. They were nowhere to be found at three of my local GS I do business with.

After checking out the super duper snub thread started by mr SIXTO. I decided I wanted to add another wheel gun to my inventory and add some real variety to my rotation. So after careful consideration and taking up allot of the guy's time at the GS I settled on the S&W 638.

One down side to the purchase was, they didnt have any speed loaders anywhere. I tried two locations and same story, no speed loaders to be found. I'm gonna try the Dick's Sporting goods later today or tomorrow, but I can always order online. I hate to pay the additional shipping charges when this stuff should be able to found locally, but it gives me a chance to get some of your suggestions for the better ones out there. Anyway, If some can give me your take/preference on which speed loaders you think would be the best I'd appreciate it.

    Cheers

I doubt you can work a speedloader around the stock on your 638. I know I can't with my 438. I use Speed Strips with it. I don't know if speedloaders will fit around a set of S&W service stocks on this gun or not either.

Thanks, I'll look into the Speed Strips then.

I did almost the same thing a few weeks ago. I was out looking and had been wanting a wheel gun for awhile, so I too bought a 638. It carries so nice with my non-gun belt and cheap holster. Cant wait to see how it carries when I have quality hardware to go with it.

When you're ready to sell that for a dollar, let me know.

    Nice gun.

Congrats on that nice snubbie. Every collection should have at least one.

I hate to disagree, but the stocks on the 638 seem no larger than those on my 642 and I can work speedloaders just fine...I use HKS speedloaders which appear tp be smaller than those from safariland... Try some HKS model 36 speedloaders and I think you'll find they work okay...

    Congrats on the new snub...

Great, thanks for the info. I checked out some strip loaders online today and they seem like a good option, but kind of slower then the ones I had with my 642. Kinda wish I had kept at least one of them suckers now, but I'll try a couple of each just to have it covered. Thanks!

Thanks Rottkeeper. He's a good friend and was a little down on his luck at the time. He's found a job now, but noway I was gonna ask for it back.... I got a great deal on it a few years back, so no big expense. I sold it to him for a dollar to cover my skin. I wasn't sure about the legal implications involving just out right giving one away.

Yeah, I have the Safariland Comp1. Guess I should try the HKS with my 438. If it's even slightly smaller it might be enough to work.

Here's a link to a page with some good pics. I think it illustrates one of each and a pistol that appears to have the same kinda grip. It looks like it will work, but I have no clue without buying and trying.
