Any Suggestions on Affordable/inexpensive Quality 1911 style Compacts?

    Hey guys,
So I think my next gun I want is an Ultra Compact 1911 style in either .45 or.40S&W. This should be easy to conceal/carry and I like the idea of grip and thumb safety. With 4 kids and a wife, money is a concern. Any ideas thoughts on a quality, but inexpensive (not cheaply made) Ultra Compact 1911 style?

Mainly along the lines of best bang for the buck, manufacture wise, new or used.

Affordable to me would be in 2-300$ range.

I did a search on here but didn't really see what I was looking for...

You will come across Llama in your search. Don't bother, they are pure crap AND YES I OWNED ONE much to my dismay. You're best bet is going to be a Rock Island Compact or Hi Standard Crusader, but you're probably going to have to up your budget a bit. $200 - $300 won't buy you much other than a headache, not trying to be a snob, it's just fact.

Another option might be the Citadel M-1911 Concealed Carry model.

I don't know about those, the first two options above are reputable, the Citadel models are newer.

Your price range is at the absolute bottom of the used Armscor range, on a good day, if its been taking up shelf space for a while.

You're really going to need a $400-$500 budget.

    ...trouble is, he's looking for a 1911.

you're not going to be able to find one for under $375, except for the aforementioned Llama, its crappiness i can also personally attest to.

as far as 1911s are concerned, you will most defintiely get what you pay for. RIA's are a good quality gun, without all the bells and whistles you find on higher priced 1911s. i've been debating whether to get the compact RIA, and spend the leftover cash on holsters and ammo, or spend my entire fund on a Sig Sauer C3, another comapct 1911.

That's the GI, not the MILSPEC.

For a 1911, you won't get anything for $300. You would actually have to work hard to get a good anything for that price, but in other action styles and calibers it can be done.

I have to agree with the others. Good quality 1911's are spendy $ these days. My Kimber 4" was a bit more than 900.00, 7 or so years ago. Great weapon though, and would not part with it. Afraid you will either have to up your budget or change your flavor. Don't get me wrong please! I'm sure you don't have to hand over a grand to get what you're after. But if you want one you can depend on expect to pay more than what you currently have budgeted. Best luck and good shooting...

Thankx for the input guys. I'll have to wait for a good tax year or getting lucky in VA lotto for one it appears. I think I will just stick to the original plan of getting a Keltec or LCP for summertime/slimmer to carry gun. Those are probably closer to my current price limits right now anyway.

    Again, appreciate the feedback!!

My dealer told me (No idea if its correct) that the citadels are really a somewhat more polished Rock Island. Hold a citadel and a Rock Island Tactical next to each other and you will have a heck of a time finding differences.

That said, the RIA guns seem to be a great gun fro the price, gunbroker has them down to the $430 range for the tacticals, $365 for the GI.

Compacts are ofcourse a bit rarer, but start around 430 as well

    Citadel is part of Armscor.
They are based in the Philippines and put out a decent 1911. They really are the best in the lower price range. They have a cast frame and lots of MIM, but so do a lot of other brands.
