What's the "Next Big Thing" in Defensive Handguns?
OK folks...we've recently seen the resurgence of small .380 pocket pistols, the development of polymer frames for revolvers, and other innovations aimed at the CCW civilian market.
What do folks out there think the "next big thing" might be? What are you waiting to spend your hard earned money on?
I'm waiting for the Boberg XR9S "Shorty" 9mm. Why? Because it is only fractionally larger than my LCP, but can fire a 9mm +P without destroying its recoil spring (unlike the Rohrbaugh R9). It's pull-back action allows a longer barrel in a small size pistol. While this action has been used before, it has never successfully been used in a pistol, especially one this small.
IF it works, I'll likely buy one after they've been out for a year or so, to ensure the bugs have been worked out (there are always bugs).
So, what else is on the horizon?

I have visions danceing in my head of a singlestack 9mm Glock smaller than the PF9. Never happen... it might fail and destroy the Glock rep. I can dream though.
Glock 22 Gen 4, 27
Ruger SP101 .357mag
S&W 637 Airweight
Ruger Single Six
Ruger Blackhawk Bisley 45 Colt
Mossberg 835 Grand Slam

- I would LOVE to see a smaller size Glock. I have a Glock 27 and don't carry it any longer since my Kahr is much slimmer and lighter.

Small polymer larger caliber handguns that sacrifice capacity for a built in taser unit.

It is here already. The Kel-Tec PRM-30. A .22 magnum pistol that holds 30 rounds. That's firepower!

I want to see a reasonably priced pocket 9mm.
Pocket .45 would be better but not as likely.

A great big gun used by a midget cop...you can carry!
My Glock-36 is already about the perfect SD weapon.IMHO

Totally screwed up. They should have beaten those engineers with rubber hoses.

Walther PPS is a single stack super slim 9mm and it functions like a Swiss watch. If Walther can do it, Glock can do it. I love my PPS.

Built-in electronics, such as the built-in laser in the S&W Bodyguard 380.
http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...content=754501
1. LED night sights that sense darkness and have interchangeable masks for shape and color.
2. Built-in tactical light.
3. Mini LCD display showing cartidge count, loaded chamber, poor trigger control indicator, etc.
4. Built-in electronic lock.
5. Much more...

When everybody finally has enough guns, and they have to start cutting the price of new ones by half! Like they will soon have to do with the ammo too!

Now there's a disaster in the making.
I don't think there is anything huge on the horizon, but I do think the CCW community is going to continue to drive the gun market. I think we are going to see more and more pocket sized guns, with better options.
Integrated lasers are going to be a big fad, but I do think that is going to make a big mark in the industry.
