I have the XDsc in 9mm and it is very accurate at distance, no different than any of my full size guns and better than most.

I assume you mean 20 yds. I do not know about 20 years from now.

I carry the xd 40 sc and have never really practiced at 20 yds, mainly because most SD situations are going to be much closer.
I am much more accurate with this gun over the previous which was a Kahr CW40. In the 5-10 yard range it is very accurate.
I like the gun and carry it most every day if I am not carrying a
SP-101. Since it is a bit heavier than most subcompacts in .40 it has less muzzle flip.

I have speer gold dot 165 gr JHP in it.

When I took my daughter to the range with several of my handguns, it was my XD40 SC that she latched onto. It is very accurate. My experience has been that the high quality handguns with short barrels are still very accurate. The biggest problem comes with the shooter because the short barreled guns have a short sighting plane and some shooters have difficulty getting used to that short sighting plane.

After a little practice, they're pretty accurate at 20-30 yards... I have no problem consitenly hitting 16oz propane bottles at that distance with mine..

To be honest, I think the majority of the question relies on the user, not the gun. Granted, longer the barrel means better accuracy, but it depends on what you're using the gun for. If you're worried about accuracy for a nightstand gun, then there's no reason not to get a full size XD. If it's for concealing, I wouldn't be too concerned. If you're talking about compared to other sub-compact 40's, i think the difference between the guns is negliable. I think the major thing would be the user. Some people shoot better with different guns. You can't blame Glock because you shoot an XD better, and vice versa.

Most self-defense shootings aren't going to be that far away, according to the data collected.

Guns &Ammo recently did an evaluation of the XD9SC, and they found it to be very accurate.

I've only put 50 rounds through my XD40sc, but it was VERY accurate from 20 feet to 50 feet. Very nice shooter, easy to pull off multiple rounds on target. Very good carry piece. I carry mine IWB with no problem.
