    opinions wanted: S&W, and Ruger....

Ok, so I have a 9mm Smith and Wesson ( SW9VE ). Bought it brand new about a month ago. Well, Ive never been a smith an wesson guy, just bought this because I didn't have any handguns for CCW ( Only shotguns, and rifles ). Well, my buddy has a Ruger P89DC, Bought it new in 2000, never been fired. Perfect condition as it has never left the case it came in. Its a little heavier, and feels more solid in my hand. Feels more like a military hand gun..

My question is, which do you think would be the better gun ( He wants to trade ). my SW or his Ruger. ( I shot my fathers Ruger P95 and loved it )..

    Thanks alot guys

p89 is weighs more than the p95... i had a P95 and loved it. i sold it to my dad and bought a sr-9 which i really love too. if your not real happy with the sw, make the trade....rugers are very dependable and tough.

I'm a S&W fan and not a Ruger fan, but if he wants an even up trade, his P89DC Ruger for your S&W model, I'd do it. You like the feel of the Ruger and that Smith is not exactly a grand model, so go for it. You could probably google each model vs. the other to help your decision.

I'd do that trade in a heartbeat.

It's tit for tat either way you'll have a good gun, & the P89 is heavier than the sigma. I think Ruger has quit making the p89 not for sure on that, Guess you have to see which one you shoot better ; )

It's going to depend on what you are comfortable with and like the feel of the most. I have a SW9VE and I like it. Actually, I like it a LOT!. Good piece of equipment. But my opinion is based on what feels "good" to me. And as far as shooting, I can shoot the SW9VE all day without issues.

I have a P95 and love shooting it. For me, it's just a tad large for CC. A lot of people do CC the P series. The Ruger P89 and P95 are durable, reliable, accurate weapons. If you like the P89 better, go for it. It's a nice gun.

I'm a Smith Guy and I would make that trade... My father had a RugerP89DC I liked it for what it was... he sold it to my cousin so he could buy himself a Smith and Wesson M&P9c which is a better concealable HG.... If you want a Good concealabe Smith get an M&Pcompact... if you want a Ruger get the SR9c ... but the RugerP89DC is an good choice to but it is just to big IMO for concealed carry. Good Luck

Do it. I don't know anything bad about Smith autos.

But I do know that a full-sized Ruger auto is a rock-freaking solid piece of self-defense machinery that should last a couple of lifetimes.

I don't own any anymore, 'cause I have smallish hands and their grips are too big for me (I have the same problem with Glocks, much to my detriment as a firearms enthusiast).

    You know both guns...
You know the condition of both guns...
    You know the other 'party'...
It certainly seems like a fair trade...
You're not trading at a gun shop where you can lose some $$...

I'd say that if you really like the other gun, go get it!

Is it a good trade, sure.

What is your use for the gun going to be? Are you going to be trying to CC the gun. Then the Sigma is probably the better deal than the heavy Ruger. I think that the Sigma is also better suited for CC due to how the Rugers safety and such are set up.

Either way, your going to need to make the decision of what you actually want the gun for and go from there.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.
