Another Little Project Been Working On

Some time back I went out and bought myself a Taurus PT1911 as a project gun. I've been slowly getting it to what I wanted it to be. Well I think it's pretty close to finished except maybe another different set of grips. So here's the before and after.

What I changed was it now has a Wilson Hammer, Mueschke ambi safety, a left over pair of Kimber rosewood grips that I had in my parts box, and a stainless steel Duracoat job on the slide. It also has a new Nowlin sear. Overall I'm pretty pleased that it came out looking as good as it does.

Wow...Very nice. What a difference. For sure an improvement. Do the Taurus 1911s have a better reputation than than the other Taurus guns?

It's a 1911 it can be made to work and look great with a little effort. Between my wife and myself we own 3 Taurus handguns and they have all been great guns. This 1911 I specifically bought to build it into about what you see. There are some other things I could do with it but for now I think it's good. Our other 2 are wheelguns so I can't speak to their other autos quality.

Wow. Hard to believe that's the same weapon. Very nice!!!

I have a Taurus PT709 Slim 9mm. 600 rounds and it's been flawless. It's now one of my favorite shooters. I like my father-in-law's PT111 too.

Very nice. How did you get rid of the roll marks?

I assume what your calling roll marks is the billboard that was engraved on both sides? Well let me tell you what I learned if anyone else would like to try a similar project. Duracoat makes a product called Durafil that you spray on to cover up dings, dents, rust pitting and yes engraving. I put on first coat and sanded it back to smooth and then added a second coat that I sanded to smooth but a little thicker than bare metal. Then sprayed the Duracoat over that and then finished with Duracoat matte clear and that's all there was to it. Duracoat products are great and easy to work with.

Yes the "billboards" are what I was talking about. Thanks for the info as I'm working on a similar project right now. And again, it looks really nice.

Gotta be the nicest PT1911 I've seen.

That's probably my biggest complaint about the PT1911.

I honestly think they'd sell more if they got rid of it. I know I'd buy one.
