What's the word on the Steyr m40's?

I have the chance to get one for about $450 with 3 mags. It sure feels great in my hand, like the trigger, and love the sights.

    Any thoughts?

Been looking for a holster and they seem few and far between...will they fit any of the holsters made for similar sized Glocks?

The Steyr M9-A1 is my absolute favorite duty sized 9mm pistol ever. The good thing about the M40-A1 is that it was designed first and not simply a beefed up 9mm. It is a very robust pistol and it will give you many years of reliable service.

    Don't confuse the M40-A1 with the M40 - they're two different guns.

My wife and I have 9 Steyrs (no duplicates) and we love them all. They're the single most ergonomic gun we've held. Totally reliable and tack drivers. As my wife says, "They make me look good at the range."

Blade Tech, Galco, and JMG Holsters all make Steyr models.

$450 with the mags is a good deal. Go for it.

I've carried a S9 and now I'm carrying a M40A1. I've had several Steyr pistols and they are all great pistols. Also, check with Dave at Little Bear, he make holsters for the A1 variety (not sure about the S or M).

Yes, the one I am looking at is an A1. BTW...other than the A1 having an accessory rail, what are the main differences?

The M(and S) series has a mechanical safety, the -A1 series do not. There are physical differences in the frame other than the rail. The slide, barrel and seer group are the same. I am not sure about the trigger assy.(I think the safety is part of the trigger group).
There are a lot of very nice, knowledgeable people and good info on both series and the Augs at steyrclub.com.

I liked my 40 A1. Traded it in for a XDm. Didn't have it long enough to get used to the sights. Great shooting gun though.

That luvmy40 said. The A1 adds the rail and removes the trigger safety. The A1 grip is slightly more "square" and slightly larger. Other than that, there are no differences. You might want to get over on http://www.steyrclub.com/vb/index.php and talk to some of those guys.

BTW - because of the ergonomics, low bore axis, smooth, light trigger, and "nose-heavy" design, all the Steyrs shoot like baby dolls.

I too have the M9-A1 and it is a awesome pistol. My son loved it so much I gave it to him so I am now looking for another one. Must be your area because $450 is a bit high around my parts, only gave $300 for mine with only 15 rounds through it. But since they aren't being imported any longer and the truth is coming out about what a great gun they are the prices may be going up?? You won't be sorry though!!!
