I have several 1911's and love them, but before you make that final decision, do pick up a Glock-36. It's not as 'thick' as any of the other Glocks...it's a dream to conceal, about as dependable as any firearm can be, and is dead on accurate. It's ALL these things right out of the box.
    Good luck in your search.

Must it be a 1911? The XD .45ACP is an excellent pistol that comes in compact size (10 rounds) and can also be made full size with the grip extension on the magazine (13 rounds).

The maker just closed down. I'd suggest getting something else. Plenty of other brands out there with less issues than CD had.

I have a Rock Island Armory .45 that has been reliable and it was pretty inexpensive. They are made/imported, can't remember which, by Armscor in the Philipines.

Some joint out of New Jersey is where I got mine. Can't remember the name, but it under $400.

FYI Charles Daly Citadel's 1911 are made by Armscor and are warrantied by Armscor, so you can and will be able to get any warranty done by them. So do not be afraid to purchase one, they are great firearms. I hope this helps. God Bless :)

I agree with staying away from anything daly. Not that they are bad but it's always a bit iffy when a company closes it's doors. If you interested in a compact .45 that's not a 1911 check out the taurus pt145. It's my EDC and I love it.

Dont get the CD. I would go with Kimber, or Colt, or anyone else that has a good reputation. 1911s are great guns.

To echo others, I'd probably be a little nervous about anything Daly with them having closed their doors. If I were looking and could find one, I'd be more likely to go for the Springfield Armory GI Micro.

Are you aware that Charles Daly and KBI went out of business January 20, 2010?

Stick with a Kimber. They have multiple choices in 3" and 4" barrels.

I like .45 ACP...but would not recommend any brand/make/type that is compact.

IMHO, the .45 ACP works, oh-so-much-better, in any/every measured compacity in the full size platform it was designed on/for.

If you opt for compact...you will suffer the slings and arrows of malfunction/operation problems and inconsistent bullet expansion due to short barrel, etc.

    Just my 2 Cents.

WOW! Does that mean I can't fix my SAAB or my Pontiac because they closed the doors. My Studebaker & my Willys set in the barn and parts are available.
I have several Charles Daly's long & handguns. Different generations some from the 50's and they all are ver good. DO NOT be afraid. BUY IT.
