I rather be safe then sorry.
It's better to have it when you need it then need it and dont have it.

Ruger covers every need that most normal folks have, but I deliberately practice diversity, in addition to my Rugers: LCP, SP-101, .22 carbine and Mini 14.

I'm not a seasoned shooter. I personally prefer Ruger because of safety. (Yes, I know a weapon is only as safe as the shooter.)

If he is a novice, I would recommend Ruger over Glock. If he is a seasoned shooter with lots of experience, I am sure he would appreciate Glock.

Just encourage him to not shoot an important body part off.

Ruger is one of the biggest and best firearms manufacturers in the world. Great company and great products in general. I perfer their revolvers over their semiauto pistols but they all are solid guns.
When I leave the home port:

You can't go wrong with Ruger guns, they are well built and customer service is great. I only have three now but have had many over the years. I only sold them because I was young and needed the cash, my mistake.

Ruger has long been an admired American firearms manufacturer. Their hand guns have been rather robust and function as such. They do have the new SR9 and SR9C which I am looking. The SR9C is the compact model for better concealment and would be worth looking into.

    Foots402, I have owned a lot of Ruger's. Including my current SR9 9MM.
Ive owned a lot of other MFR's guns also.
Rugers are very well built (often overbuilt) They are tough, and run like no others.
Their fit an finish have went down hill, I feel since Bill Ruger died.
However they are very good and would be a very dependable carry gun.
I would suggest the new LCR, I tried the trigger and wow, it was smooth and no stacking.
Its a little larger than a J frame but mans its sweet!

I own one Ruger, but not for an EDC. I think that Ruger has earned a reputation as a quality firearms manufacturer.OMO

You may not like guns. You may choose not to own one. That is your right.
You might not believe in God. That is your choice.

Have I answer this somewhere else.

I own Ruger Revolvers only, the 3 and 4 inch GP100, the 3 inch is my favorite overall, the balance is just excellent in my view.

The SP101 is a heavy but many like it .357mag or .38spl is always nice... Ruger also just came out with the SR9 compact in 9mm and that is a very good choice for CC... The older semi's are a little big for CC but I think if he is serious spending a little extra for a new SR9c would be a wonderful choice especial because you can convert it to the full size version with the piece it comes with.. good luck

Accuracy ALWAYS WINS! So carry what you can hit with.

If you find yourself in a fair fight your tactics stink.

excellent guns and good customer service...I alternate between the LCR and LCP for CC. Both are fine for the job.
