Jim, maybe I missed your point but in NJ do you have to have a permit for each firearm?

Very cool SIG. I'm saving for a 226 in 40 cal right now and can't wait to get it. I'm lucky though I can rent several different SIGs at my range and it's included in my membership. Actually I've been to the range already to and I'm going back in 2 hours.

Great looking gun....congrats. I handled one of these the other day in .45. I love the sights.....had tritium in the rear and large hi-viz in the front....instant pointablility.

A question about the equinox, is the grip on it the same as the standard 229, with the exception that standard is plastic, and the equinox is wood? I guess what im asking is whether the dimensions of the grip are exactly the same as the standard 229? Just with different materials... any info would help!

The grip on the Equinox is noticeably different. I went months waiting for my grips to come in (they sent the gun with normal grips) and when the real ones finally came in - I was shocked how much bigger they were! I love the looks of them but they might be just a touch too big for my hands!

I love the looks of both the Equinox and SAS. About two weeks ago, when visiting Cabela's, I developed a love affair with the 229.

I'm now trying to explain to my wife how the beautiful SAS with the stainless slide and wood grips will serve as my "barbecue gun"...I just learned about that concept and presently all of my handguns are functional, not showy. While my Beretta 92G-SD is a beauty, the Equinox and SAS both outshine her! You can't go wrong with either of those two 229s.

Let us know how it goes at the range.
