    Walther P99 as duty gun.

I have been searching for a while for a good duty/off duty setup. For a while I was thinking about a Sig P226/P228 for duty, and a Glock 26 off duty. Then I discovered the Walther P99.

Is the P99 in 9mm reliable enough to carry on duty? I read that the .40 had slide lock issues, but that was resolved by a new spring. Which trigger do you guys like better, the QA or AS? Will the P99 hold up to duty loads and extensive practice?

I also like that they make a P99Compact. Is this pistol reliable? How does the P99 and P99c carry compared to the Glock 19 and GLock 26?

Thank for taking the time to read my post!

There were some PD's that went with the S&W 99 (Same as the Walther) in the early 00's. I don't know of any that still use them. They were problematic when exposed to the abuse a duty gun is subjected to. The fact that you are wondering if it is "reliable enough" should answer your question.
And the other thing, good luck finding a suitable duty holster. If you like the 99, I'd suggest you go with the M&P line. There is a lot more product support for it, which is super important in a duty gun.

Of course there is always the Sig and Glock options; which are better options IMO.

Thanks for the reply. I know some PDs in Europe use them, but that means very little. Also, I thought the German made ones were supposed to be of higher quality.

The reason I was even looking at it, is because of how poorly Glock fits my hands. I like Sigs though, and I should probably stick with them.
