    9mm recommendations for my sweetheart

We are looking for a gun for my wife. Ive got an XD 9mm service model (4). She can shoot it well and is very familiar w/ it. We took a 2 day training course and that is what she shot. She also shoots it in some steel matches. Problem it is too big for her to carry, and shed like to get a smaller one so she can carry daily.
Obviously she is going to shoot any gun before we buy.
Im looking for suggestions of smaller type 9mms that we can check out.
Also, please list strengths and weaknesses of any recommended guns and type of holsters used to carry especially if you are a woman.
I trust the opinions here much more than at the local gun shops. They tend to push whatever they have in stock.

    Thanks -Hayzor

How about the XD9 SubCompact? Still as thick as your service model, but shorter grip/barrel make a difference.

My wife doesn't like the grip on the GLOCK 19, but the GLOCK 26 with a pinky extension fits her great.

Exactly what I was thinking. I love my XD9sc. I'd love to get a service model for a night stand weapon but funds won't allow it right now.

How about a Kahr CW9. Excellent trigger, easy to conceal, fairly priced, and reliable.

Why not look at the MP9 compact? It's as small as many glocks and has been a proven weapon.

I would recommend the Sig P239, It is a single stack, so it will have a narrower grip, feels great (to me), and has great quality, and reliability.

The P239 has several different triggers available, the DA/SA, DAK (double action Kellerman), SRT (short reset trigger)

I prefer the DA/SA, but to each his own.

M&P 9compact, or Kahr CW9, or Kahr PM9. My wife loves her CW9.

Well if she can conceal a XD9sc, I would recommend that. My girlfriend loves shooting mine. It should be an easy change for her since they'll be similar. Of course, there's the Glock 26 and the M&P compact.

If those are too thick, there's the Kahrs and Keltecs.

One thing you really need to consider is not just if she likes shooting it but can she operate it. She will need to be able to rack the slide, pop the mag out, load bullets in to the mag and so on. Depending on her physical abilities you need to take that in consideration. Some of these smaller guns have some pretty tough recoil springs. There is a reason a lot of instructors recommend a revolver for a woman's first handgun. Ease of use. If she is not going to be very active a revolver just might be the way to go.

For carry she might prefer a single-stack magazine.

Most of the obvious choices have been mentioned
    Sig P239
    Taurus PT709 Slim
    Kahr CW9

I'd also add the Walther PPS in 9mm as something to try (try before you buy is key if possible).

Ditto on the xd9sc. I'd also have her drive a SR9c...although it's not 'proven' yet in my mind.
    M&P Shield9; RIA 1911 Tactical 9mm;...many long guns
