I'm not a Taurus fan, but I've pre-decided that if I stumble upon a PT 709 for the right price, I'm on it.

    Thanks for the post/pics.

I have one that I use for a pocket gun. It's pretty nice for what it is. For a woman's first gun, be prepared that with it's short barrel and very light weight, it's a little jumpy. It's also loud and has a pretty good muzzle blast. When I took my 16 year old daughter to the range for the first time, it scared her. She was much more comfortable shooting my huge and heavy Walther P38 (9mm).

Maybe use the PT709 as bait... you know, "first we start with the .22 and see how you do before we spend the money on the PT709" kind of thing.

    FWIW, YMMV, etc.

    709 SS Slim

Just picked this one up for my wife last week 709 ss slim. Stripped down and cleaned off the packing grease and oiled her up. Going to the range Monday . Picked up a Kel-tec PF9 mag extension(not shown) looks kind of funky on but my wife loves how it feels.

That's a nice looking pistol!! That could tuck away in a pocket (Ideas), and not really worry about it.. I'll have to look at this one now. Thanks for the pic's. to show the size comparison.

Glock27/ KaBar TDI/ MTAC Holster. I have more also, but this combination works well..

I have a Kahr CW9 that has been great for me but all the bad press is getting in my head...I like to carry big revolvers but it's about to get hot down here and I have been considering going to the Kahr. How do you think the Taurus compares to the Kahr?

Shoot both of them off a sandbag and that will settle it for you. The PT709 has a better trigger and shoots tighter groups.

The Kahr's trigger is indeed mushy...very accurate, but the trigger is mushy.

I carried my 709 all day today (13 hours and counting), half the day in an IWB holster and half the day in my pants pocket. Once you shoot one, you'll be hooked. Great trigger and very, very accurate. Fun, fun, fun to shoot.

Question regarding PT-709 Slim, it's listed as DA/SA. I am not that familiar with semi-autos so how do you get it in double action mode?
If you chamber a round is it now in SA mode or DA mode?

If SA is the gun equipped with a decoker of some sort?

The gun is not equiped with a decocker. The only way to get in DA mode is to use the second strike capability, after firing and not getting a bang, trying again.

It's more accurately described as a SA striker-fired pistol with second-strike capability. No hammer and no de-cocker. You rack the slide and chamber a round and you're cocked. Move the thumb safety up and you're cocked and locked. Striker-fired pistols are a little different if you're used to hammer-fired pistols. Some folks are unnerved at the visual of a semi with a hammer cocked and a round chambered and don't stop to think that a Striker-fired pistol is in the same condition but doesn't have the physical external hammer visual.

I bought one for the wife and I love it. I was out shooting it today and I think I hooked another after letting him try it.
