    Taurus PT709 Ammo

Picked up a new Taurus "Slim" this past weekend and can't wait to break it in at the range. I've been reading post after post regarding the gun and am still a little confused regarding SD ammunition. lI'd appreciate it if the "Slim" owners out there would let know what brands of SD ammo their pistols like the best.

I've been carrying Gold Dot 9mm 124 grain
    +P Short Barrel. Very accurate

I'm currently carrying Hornady Critical Defense and have had no issues with it feeding and ejecting.

I was reading in the TaurusArmed Forum that some guys were having light strikes with it and nothing else.
    Any problems for you?

Nope. Goes bang everytime I pull the trigger regardless of ammo I've tried.

I just got the CD a month or so ago. I was carrying federal 115 gr JHP prior to that.

Hello jcurt172 and Congrats on the recent acquisition of your 709 Slim. As with the other fellow 709 owners, mine will devour anything I feed it.

The thick factory packing grease is nasty and has probably been the cause of the reported ftf/fte issues most owners have encountered at the range. So It's very important that you clean, oil and lube your 709 before your trip to the range.

Good Luck and please come back with a range report.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

    Mine eats like a teenager

Anything I have fed through it has gone bang,

    the list includes
    Winchester White Box
    Winchester 115 gr JHP
    Winchester 147 gr JHP
    winchester 115 gr PDx1 bonded
    Winchester 124 gr PDX1 bonded
    winchester 147 gr PDX1 bonded
    Winchester 147 gr SXT
    Gold dot 147gr JHP
    Golden Saber 115gr JHP
    Star fire 115gr JHP
and yes even some wolf steel case junk ammo along with some eastern bloc surplus circa 80's
I am currently carrying the PDX1 bonded in 124 gr. The 147 gr rounds pretty much across the board were all just a little to slow for my liking

Thanks everyone. I currently carry Gold Dot in my XD 9mm service model and would like to do the same with my new Taurus. Sound like I should have no problem.
