    Help me chose a weapon

I'm currently shopping for a CC weapon. I want something small and lightweight that can be with me when my 8 year old and I are out in the boonies.

I have a Beretta mini-cougar .45acp and an XD-9 already in the safe. I don't like hiking with either on my hip. They're great at the range but just too heavy when we're out hiking.

I'm thinking something along the lines of the Ruger LCR or something similar in a S&W.

Small, easily concealed and lightweight. Throw it in my coat pocket and be done with it.

Did you consider the Kahr MK9 or PM9? And the Kahr MK40 or PM40? They are very small and lightweight. Kahr Arms / Products

I recently bought a Ruger SR9 compact. It is lightweight, reliable, and comes with 2 mags: a 10 round and a 17 with a sleeve. It's now my everyday carry.

Too light for heavy work, too heavy for light work!

Glock 29. Lightweight, small, and powerful!

What he said. Glock 29 would be great. Or a S&W small .357 J-frame. You want something with more punch than a .380 for hiking.

    "...Beretta mini-cougar .45acp and an XD-9..."

Whew! It's hard to accept that these would be considered to be too heavy.

A S&W model 60 in .357 mag. Great CC weapon. I love my 60-10 with its 3" barrel. Very light and accurate and with some Buffalo Bore ammo is a very potent weapon for bears and 2 legged vermin. It's a pleasure to pack IWB in a LOBO holster and you don't know it's even there.

No way on a .380 for me! Not enough power for a outdoors/woods weapon.

Personally I think your Cougar would be a breeze to carry with the right holster and a quality gun belt. I pack a 6" S&W 57 in .41 mag in a Bianchi Shoulder holster all day with no problems at all.

The model 60 would be a great choice and it is a quality revolver that you can pass onto your son years from now if you keep the round count low with the .357's. JMHO

They don't seem like much, but when you also have 40lbs of camping gear on your back, you're hiking at 6000'+, and still have 4-5 miles until you get to camp, things end up weighing a tad more than they did back home.

Where did the .380 enter the conversation?

for real outdoors stuff like you're talking about, I would take the wheel gun myself. A 3 or 4 inch barrel in .357 should cover most of your needs...unless you happen to be in bear country.

I'm a Glock guy so, I'd recommend one of those. If you're okay with a 9mm, you might condider a Kel-Tec P9 or P11. In Ruger line, I like the SP-101 but they're not light.
