Does belt width (1 1/4 or 1 1/2) make a difference in the support?

The belts (not gun belts) I normally wear are 1" or 1 1/4". I was thinking of getting a 1 1/4" gun belt. Also have read where people can't thread the 1 1/2" through certain pants.

I prefer 1.5 also but I have some pants mostly suit pants that it doesn't work, so I have a decent 1.25 belt for those pants.

Most holster makers punch belt loops at 1.5 since it is the most popular size for gun belts. If you routinely wear belts smaller than that, simply tell your holster maker to shorten the loops to fit the belt you find most comfortable. Another neat option is for the holster maker to use crescent belt loops which will help bite on smaller size belts and not allow the holster to "slip" on a draw.

I prefer a 1.5" belt, but have several other sizes as well......such as my 2" Duty belt that I'm pretty fond of.

i went with a 1 1/4" because it has more versatility for me.

Probably not a lot. Support is more dependent upon the thickness and stiffness of the leather. I just happen to like the look of the wider belt.

I voted for "no belt" because I prefer a shoulder holster or an IWB holster with a clip to hold it in place(Don Hume). However, the best IWB holster I have is an El Paso product and it requires a 1.5" belt.

I like the 1 1/4 belts. I have a few 1.5 belts and realized it was just to much leather for me.

1.75" C.S.M. lined Wilderness Instructors belt in the mail, should be here by Friday so I'll see how I like it when my MTAC gets here in another week or two. I wear jeans pretty much all the time, regardless of the season so it suits me. I doubt anyone will be able to tell a difference because I'm always wearing a black cotton web belt by Columbia and the new Wilderness one looks pretty similar from the pictures I've seen.
