Thinking about selling my nickel S&W Model 40 and purchasing a Model 442. If so, I'd like to install a set of Barami Grips and carry the piece AIWB. With that said, I have a few questions for those that have experience with Barami grips on carry revolvers.
- Are BG's manufactured close to factory S&W grip thickness?
- Does the "retaining" grip allow enough space to use with a thick gun belt?
- How deep does the retaining grip ride on the belt?
- Any issues with excessive shifting or inadvertent up-travel?
Do they still make them ? Haven't seen them in years. I might be wrong but I always believed that they were more for a Mexican carry type of carry. And the clip was utilized for use over the pants , not the belt .
I have used one on occasion when carrying a Colt Agent. The grip was a very close fit. There is plenty of room to fit over a thick belt and the actual hook area hangs about 3/4" over the top of the belt. The pistol is carried at a pretty good forward rake. I never experienced much shifting but it was not all that comfortable with a hammered snubby. Might be better with a 642. I think Midway still sells them among others. I prefer a good IWB or pocket holster for lightweight snub carry.
I used a set on my Charter Arms for a while. The lip is big enough to go over a thick belt. It was very secure and I used it until they cracked. The plastic does not hold up well to heavy use.
I have gone through maybe 5 or 6 sets over the years. You have to be careful not to overtighten the screw or you can easily crack them. -Thickness seems to be the same as the old factory wood grips.- For me, no the "retaining grip" WILL NOT go over thick belts but you can just slip in over the waistband of your pants between you pants.- Your belt/waistband will stop at the area of the grip frame at about the point where the original grips would stop (hope that makes sense)-Once you find, through trial and error, the right carry spot you won't have a problem with shifting or "up travel".

Sorry, I should have proofread. It should read "between the waistband of your pants and your BELT". It is actually a reasonably comfortable, secure and VERY concealable way to carry a small revolver.
I use a set on my Charter Arms Undercover along with a much needed Tyler T-grip. At such a light weight having it hang on your pants instead of your belt is not a problem. If overhang isn't an issue then try carrying it at the appendix position with the hip grips. It's very comfortable and very concealable.
