This holster is very high on my possible list. I have a question though, maybe you can answer....All the pictures I see of it show the pistol with a thumb break closed, and the hammer appears to be lowered. Can a 1911 be carried cocked and locked in one of these holsters? If it can, I think I have found my holster.

    Thanks everyone

Yes you can carry locked and cocked with the Galco.

I carry my G23 in a Galco Jackass. It hangs diagonally with the muzzle slightly up. I bought it specifically to wear with a tuxedo. I didn't figure I'd use it for anything else, but I find myself wearing it often. Retail is expensive, but I got it at dealer cost since I work part time in a gun shop.

Is that something you have done? Does the thumb break close properly and open easily like it should if the hammer is back?

to close you need to fidget a little to get the leather in front of the hammer. to open once you unsnap pulling the gun out pulls the thumb break open and as you pull it the thumb break goes out and over the hammer in my experience. I'm using a 5 inch Kimber. YMMV.

When I use one, it's an old Jackass Rig (now known as the Miami Classic), and was made by Jackass Leather Company.

The Jackass and the Miami Classic are still separate products. The Miami Classic holds the pistol horizontally while the Jackass allows an angled carry. The difference between the Classic and the Classic II is the II has horizontal mag carriers.

Got mine at Optics Planet. Price seems the same at most places. $143.00

I am not talking about the current "Jackass" shoulder holster, I am talking about the original "Jackass Rig" which became the current "Miami Classic."

When the pilot episode of Miami Vice was broadcast in 1984, Galco had been manufacturing the shoulder holster rig eventually known as the Miami Classic for the past 14 years. It was then called the Original Jackass Rig, after the Jackass Leather Company, the name under which we did business until our company name was changed to Galco International, Ltd.

    Question here

Do the thicker straps on the Jackass Rig and the MCII make a noticable difference with weight distribution/comfortability? I think they would but they are only a 1/2" thicker than the Miami Classic which isn't very much. Anybody tried both?

what are you carrying? I would think the wider straps would distribute the weight better but I have not worn the Jackass. If it's a polymer gun, maybe it won't matter. I carry a G29/G30 and a fullsize 1911. Not lightweights by any means

Full size 1911. Yeah thats what I thought but they are only a 1/2" thicker, so I was wondering if that 1/2" made any noticeable difference.
