    Mag holder - Safariland

This is the Safariland Model 71 Injection Molded Single Magazine Pouch mounted with a 5.11 carry belt.

At first, I wasn't sure that I wanted a mag carrier that was open at the top, but trying this out at the store convinced me that this was a really good way to go. The holster secures the mag snugly, but is open at the top allowing for a fast grab and draw.

The belt does what a carry belt should do, keeping both gun and mag level and predictable. I tried both the 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 in sizes and the 1 1/2 size was definitely better, but I'm going with the narrower size because it fits my wardrobe better.

IF it works for you, that's what counts. Much of my gear is SL, I think they make good products. Relative to a mag carrier, contrary to most I prefer no carrier. I carry my spare mag "Mexican", iwb at about 9:30 against my hip bone.

Thank you, guantes. I always respect your opinions.

In this case, I was looking for a mag carrier that had some kind of closed top, a velcro flap or snap or something like that because the idea of an open-top carrier didn't give me a good feeling.

This carrier is a kind of accordion-fold deal and it really grips the magazine so I have no worries that it might fall out. It won't. But if I need a reload - here, 17 rounds of 9mm - they are available as fast as I can pull the mag free. This is a good way to go and I recommend it.

I agree re the open top, for CCW, I don't like any type of closed top ammo carriers, be they mag holders or speed loader holders.
