Holster with permit pouch a bad idea?

I just saw this (NRAStore.com - Product Detail) slide holster on the NRA web site. It has a little plastic window for your concealed carry permit card. It struck me as a pretty poor idea, because if a police officer ever wants to see your card, you'll basically have to reach for your gun. In practical terms, it also seems like it'd get bent up, but that's less of a concern.

    Am I overthinking this one?

Nope, you are not. That's about as bad as ideas get. Maybe they could make a muzzle clip that could attach the permit to the end of the gun; then the holster idea would be their second dumbest idea.

    I agreed. Very bad idea.

To make TX expat's idea even better, maybe they could have a flip-down ID hider window that only flips away when you pull the trigger. That way, when the LEO asks to see your permit, you can point your pistol at his face and pull the trigger. Great idea!

    LOL. That's kinda funny!

The NRA often leaves me scratching my head. I know that they are the best representation that gun owners have, but that doesn't mean that I'm all that pleased with them.

Bad idea indeed, for the reasons you have stated. I can't imagine why anyone would want to carry credentials around in his holster anyway.

Fits right in with the CCW badge, bad idea.

I can see some benefits to it, for those that open carry, a permit can be displayed so everyone knows their a good guy. Its for those that are undercover CCW's that don't want to draw attention to themselves with a ccw badge and for those formal occasions when the sash would be considered gawky and out of place.

The NRA truly has some bad marketing ideas, such as the yard sign it keeps hawking that all but says, "Guns available here!" Sometimes I wonder...

Wouldn't want to use it for a permit, but my club requires that a membership card be displayed while at the range, and this seems like a decent option for that purpose.

This is almost as bad as the NRA begging you to renew 6 mo before current subscription runs out
