    Ankle carry holster for magazines

DeSantis Neoprene Ankle Double Magazine Pouch NOW AVAILABLE!

The other thread on difficulty of mag carrying got me thinking about ankle carry of mags. Googled it and here it is, never heard of these or thought too much about it.

Opinions? Anyone try one? Are there good reasons why this might be a bad idea?

This was my first google, maybe there are more out there - any better ideas, other options, etc??

I can carry a gun just fine, it's the extra magazines that I find uncomfortable and hard to conceal. (glock 19, xd40 mostly, some smaller ones also)

    I see two potential problems.
First, is that it will do much to preclude movement during a reload.
Second, is a time deficit. Other than an administrative reload, if one is required in a conflict, I think that time will be of the essence.

On my ankle is not the place for my mag to be if I need it for a reload in a dynamic situation. It's the same with a primary weapon, too many issues with accessibility. For a secondary it's ok if you dedicate training time to learn the draw, but for a piece of gear you may need in an emergency, it's not for me.

You need to edit the URL and put ",with" after the [/url]. :)

Thanks for the post. I have never thought about carrying mags in a ankle holster. For me I would never carry my primary in a ankle holster but for me I sometimes won't carry a extra mag at all because of comfort or concealment issues. I like the option of having one on the ankle. Even if deployment might be slower I still have the option of taking cover and performing a tactical reload.

That is, assuming that there is cover available.

I don't like ankle carry for a gun. However I have carried spare magazines in ankle rigs before.

I still keep one spare magazine on my belt for my primary gun, but I usually put one reload for my BUG and a second reload for my Primary in an ankle holster.

I have not tried the new rig from DeSantis.
