Bought a S&W 642 air weight NIB for 375.00 without that lock. I looking for a nice Holster to go in my right front pocket for it. I have a nemesis holster which I don't like at all that a got for a pf9 a while back. it's to thick for my liking. I want some thinner that will support the pistol in my pocket and not print. Can anyone answer on any experience on this issue...thanks
I have a couple of Nemesis holsters and think the design serves the purpose well. I have one for J-Frame Smith & Wessons and one for small .380s. I have reliable reports from shooting acquaintances that the Ramora holsters are a better pocket option. I've also used a Mika holster and it was nice, if a be thick.
A buddy made me one out of car upholstery leather. Works perfect. the pic below shows it with my PT709. If I fold the back part inside and flip it over and put the doubled up part under the trigger guard it works perfect for my S&W 442 also.
I have an uncle mikes that works well. It is relatively thin, not sure how it compares to the nemesis. I use it often. I pocket carry in slacks and 5.11 pants. Don't like to pocket carry in jeans so i don't use it for them. I put a 442 in it.
I'll add my standard plug for a Pocket Packer Premium by Wild Bill's Concealment. Mine is about 12 years old now and gets a lot of use, but it's holding up really well. The 'premium' version adds a snap-removable flat panel on the outboard side of the holster, so it 'prints' like a wallet would - a nice feature. $50 well spent.
I just looked at his web site to get a link for you, and I see he's going to be at a gun show in Hickory this weekend and in Asheville next weekend. If those are within your reach, you can probably get to try before you buy. Here's his home page: Wild Bill's Concealment | Holsters and Accessories for Concealed Carry
And here's the pocket holster: Pocket Packer
I've been using Uncle Mike's pocket holsters for various guns for years. Most of their holsters are piles of steaming crap, but the pocket holsters are actually pretty good. I've used them for a Keltec P3AT, a S&W 642, a Taurus 85UL, and currently I'm carrying a Baby Browing in one. You can't beat the price, either.
I have two Mika holsters. One round cut for jeans and a square cut for my cargo pants. His holsters appear to be bulky at first but conform to the gun nicely after a few days. Any gun in a front pocket is going to print. You just want that print to not look like a gun. Most people don't even notice what's in another person's pockets.
